If they ever did remake BTTF. I don't care how out of place he looks, Tom Wilson has to play Biff Tannen.

I'm sure you could remake anything but I can't see someone going through the hell of remaking Apocalypse Now or Aguirre, the Wrath of God, and other movies in that vein.

To you guys bringing up classic films that are actually remakes, keep in mind that it was way easier to get away with remakes back then. The originals didn't have enough memorable staying power nor the rabid fanbase to ward off a remake. The originals also often lacked sound and/or color.

You could probably do a remake of "Princess Bride" if the creators focused on the parts of the book that get short shrift in the original film.

Probably anything that has retroactively developed a reputation as being thought of as bigoted in some way.

I'm not only going to disagree with the idea you couldn't remake Back to the Future, I'm going to argue with the right crew you could make it better. Maybe it's since I only actually first saw it a year or two ago but while I certainly liked it, I found its pacing to be a slog - the movie effectively has two full back-to-back climaxes and it just makes it kind of exhausting.

Eh, I'm always in the argument anything can be remade as long as the right intention was going into the project or the direction is so wildly different in some parts, it feels like it's own thing.
If you're making it just to cash in and not do much with it, I have barely any interest in seeing it. If you're going to add more substance to it or take stuff in different directions, go for it.
Like, I can take Dune being remade by the director of Arrival because, well, Arrival is really f***ing good and I want to see what he can do with it to make it stand out from the original.

I remember reading an interview with Bob Gale a few years ago that said he and Robert Zemeckis had it written into their contract with Universal when they made the first Back To The Future that any and all sequels, spinoffs, and remakes need their approval, and that they’d never, ever, approve a remake. Gale also implied, if I remember right, that their estates would even try enforcing it after they died.

I consider it the epitome of creative laziness to remake a film _unless_ the film is an adaptation of a literary work. Even then, the ground has to be trod softly.
I would love to see a new adaptation of _Rebecca_, for example. While the original film is an absolute classic, filming it in colour, for example, would allow more play in how various scenes are lit and set up and shot. I'd love to see how a new cast would treat the material, and particularly how Rebecca's legacy changes over time, as the De Winters realize the depth of her manipulations and those of Mrs. Danvers.

I can't think of any right now, but...
My brother's children would love those Back to the Future remakes. Would be a blast. New generation needs to see these films in nowadays times to appreciate the originals. When I was younger, I wasn't too excited to see 60's films, etc.

Gotta believe it would have been done by now or within the next couple of years if that weren't the case.

I think there's some that couldn't be remade because of the content and not because they're loved... "Massacre At Central High" involved bullying, a serial killer, and bombings in a high school and I'm pretty sure no one would touch that with a 10-foot pole. Didn’t they remake Heathers a couple of years ago? Because that film involves bullying, a serial killer and bombings in a high school. There was a TV show I think.

Could see this movie getting reclaimed, a Jordan Peele subversive take.

YEa IIRC the TV show was made for Paramont Network. Then right before the first episode was to air a school shooting happened and the show wasn't aired in the States. I think it aired in a few other countries. Saw the first episode it looked interesting but not sure how it would work as a weekly series.

I kinda consider Django Unchained to be a gritty remake of Blazing Saddles. That explains why it sucks, like most gritty remakes.
