I wonder how he feels about a non MCU Marvel film like X-Men: Days of Future Past? That's a comic film that does have the emotional, psychological stuff he wants.

Ok...... I mean, I respect his point of view as he is one of the best film makers of all time, but..... ok..... I don't know what I'm supposed to feel about that. I enjoy the Marvel movies. I also like his movies. I don't know.

If you can't see them or won't see them you're not giving a proper opinion so yeah I highly disagree

Eh, I understand what he means even though I enjoy some of the Marvel films.

This dude had an actual rat walk across a windowsill in the very last shot of 'The Departed.'

Theme parks are fun. I go to the movies to have fun. I don't need my theater-going experience to be some life-altering emotional breakthrough, and to be honest with those kinds of movies I wait til they're on Netflix anyways.
As long as he's not gatekeeping, I don't see the big deal. He has a different desire from his films, I just want a nice escape from reality. To each their own, I don't think any less of him than I already did.

Is he trying to say he doesn't like the CGI standing in for an actor? That's the vibe I'm getting with his comment about humans conveying emotion with other humans. Like walking thru a themepark full of animatronics instead of people?

I like the comparison to theme parks.
Also clearly my guy hasn’t seen Thor 2: The Dark World.

Popcorn action movies are certainly a different sort of thing than say, Taxi Driver, but I think he seriously underestimates the emotional content the Marvel films and others like them can bring. I mean, he admittedly hasn't seen them, so how could he not? If you want to know what sort of films Scorsese prefers, here is a list of some of his favorites. It isn't surprising that the list draws heavily from Italian neorealism, French New Wave, and similar film styles. www.indiewire.com/gallery/martin-scorsese-favorite-films-movies/ To say that something is "cinema" and something is not just seems like silly gatekeeping. The craft that goes into a major tentpole Marvel film is no less impressive than anything Scorsese has done. They may have different values, but they not of less value. Roger Ebert was a wonderful critic for these sorts of things - he tried to judge movies by what genre they were, and what they were trying to accomplish. Here is Ebert's 5/5 review of Iron Man, for example. www.rogerebert.com/reviews/iron-man-2008I would have loved to hear what he would have to say about Infinity War and Endgame.

The irony is that Ebert compared Iron Man to Scorcese's own "The Aviator" when it came to character chemistry. Goes to show you that even if the languages being used are different (practical vs CGI), sometimes the universal medium can have more similarities than you think.

These kinds of comments are disrespectful as hell to everyone who works on Marvel films. Tell Ryan Coogler that Black Panther is crap to his face. Go ahead, Martin. I'll wait.
