Two "home" games today, and in each instance the away team had 80% of the fans in attendance. This is absurd, especially since a team like the Chargers would still have a large fan base if they were in San Diego.

The LA Coliseum is frigging massive. There's just no way to slice it.
As for the Chargers... no defending that.

LA just isn't a very good sports town. Yeah, yeah Lakers, but there is just way too many other options for entertainment there that the sports teams have no choice but to basically put up with it. However being the fairweather town LA is, people will show up when teams make playoff runs. Except the Chargers...

However being the fairweather town LA is, people will show up when teams make playoff runs. Except the Chargers... This is a proof my whole thing about how leagues look at "markets" the wrong way to determined what is considered a "big market" for a team. They look at the Population number and the whole media potential. Instead of who really is coming to the events or watching from week to week. LA isn't a city you put 2 NFL teams in and I think it was a horrible idea for the XFL to put a team there on top of it. The Rams only draw when they are in thew playoffs. Hell it took close half a season the first year they made a playoff run to start getting home fans to show up. Yes there stadium is massive as holds way more. But still they should been the dominate team in the stands. The first season back in LA, drew badly. As bad the team was, still LA getting NFL back should been enough to pack the place if it was a TRUE market. Fairweather fans goes for any team in the world. If a team is really bad and there not one thing on that team worth investing money into it, yeah nobody going. People give St. Louis fans crap for the Rams leaving but people forget that the Rams also had 10+ seasons of below .500 records and ownership for a long time not investing into the team. Than Stan came along and did what he did. Got excited the first year when they got close to a playoff run and fans did show up for that. Even if that season that was the worst division in the league, when a .500 record was a playoff team. Still playoffs was exciting stuff. Fans only stop coming when we learned the team was not staying. Why would a fan invest when it was clear it didn't matter to the owner who clearly didn't want to be in the market. St. Louis is just was example and being here I know it better than any other market. But I know a lot of other cities fall under this. Yes stat wise from how the leagues look at markets. We don't have the highest population number. We don't have the media that LA or NY does because of what they can put on the big screen. What we do have and what should be looked at more in markets is how many in the market are showing up or watching the said team in the market. St. Louis for example when it comes to the sports teams and events. PGA championship last year was a huge success. our NHL and MLB teams in the top 10 in ratings and attendance year to year. The Rams even after they left, the ratings here where higher than they where in LA. While attendance did drop the TV ratings still held. People still wanted to watch the NFL but didn't want to spend 100s of dollars knowing the outcome was more than likely not a win, which happens in every market. Like I said, people only go more times than not if the chances of a win is likely or there something on the team that is must see. Example 98, The Cardinals was not close to making the playoffs. They where mid pack in the division but the Home run chase happened. The stadium was filled like it was a playoff game because of that chase. Because there was something to draw fans in.

Another big problem is that L.A. is a transplant city. A lot of people move there, mostly to get into the entertainment industry. So, you're gonna have a lot of fans from other cities that are already loyal to their home teams. If they're gonna go to a game, then it's gonna be one in which their team has come to play against the Chargers or Rams.

I think the Rams will be okay in L.A. again, especially given the franchise was dying in STL. I went to a couple of games since my friend's dad had season tickets. One was the Favre game where he broke the passing record and there were a ton of Packers fans. The other was a Cowboys game the next year and a ton of Dallas fans were there. The Chargers are this generation's version of the Raiders moving to L.A. Actually possibly a lot worse since no one really cares about the Chargers being there.

The problem was that the wrong team moved to LA. Should've been the Raiders instead of the Chargers. Though there, you also run into the problem of the Raiders especially being a favorite of the working class and poorer neighborhoods of LA and NFL games are ridiculously expensive. They price a lot of fans out.

We spent decades without a football team. Rams are pretty good for us here. Chargers should have stayed in sd

The Chargers are this generation's version of the Raiders moving to L.A. Actually possibly a lot worse since no one really cares about the Chargers being there. The reason that happened was because ownership wasn't investing in the team. Once Georgia Frontier passed, it was a decade of nothing but below .500 seasons with owners was trying to sell the team. With how much a ticket cost, kind of hard to pack a stadium with a very low chance that they will win. Yeah I get loyalty but take any losing team in the NFL and see how many of there games sell out or is over whelmed by home fans. Hell the first year the Rams back in LA where dominated by road teams. St. Louis did well for a moment which was the first year under the Stan and Fisher year with Bradford supposed to been the QB answer. Which was exciting to see the team almost make the playoffs but look at the record. The division was the worst in the lead. When a division is decided between two teams that where at .500 at the last game of the season. Something is kind of wrong with that picture. Than everything came about the move talks. The Ownership loyalty to St. Louis became more and more clear that wasn't the case. Hell when the end result was Stan putting his own money into a brand new stadium in LA on land he brought before the Lease was up in St. Louis. Yet refused to put a dime into any Stadium in St. Louis which at the time of the owners vote. St. Louis City was willing to fulling fund a new stadium and had plans and everything. We saw how that ended. It's just amazing how still fans of LA still blame the St. Louis fans for why we lost the team but the truth is, it never mattered what we did. It was a no win situation for St. Louis and the NFL broke there own rules for that move to happen. Proof is The Kronieke Law suites filed against him that he now losing.
