Seth should focus entirely on Star Trek Orville now. And keep his crew from dating one another

To me, Family Guy only had three good seasons (four at a stretch)...and should never have been brought back. Hell, I'd have been content with FOX reviving it only as a movie. They should have just kept doing Star Wars parodies after that. American Dad is vastly superior id love them to see them do more movie parodies, like Back to the Future etc... they should do the matrix for that! also larfed my ass off at disney the reboot episode and gonna watch it again therefore i still like it also american dad

People still watch Family Guy? I'm in the " How do people watch Family Guy?" camp. Like, even back when the show was new I had friends who would watch it while I was hanging out and I'd just go "This is entertainment to you?" Never understood the appeal to anything Seth MacFarlane had left his fingerprints on.

I am kinda amused that with the "worse" episodes that turned people off, this is what did it for you. I still watch and like FG....just consider it light entertainment. Looking for nothing deep and layered. I'm just looking for light entertainment too. The problem is that it is no longer entertaining. Even before this thread I tried watching that episode. I was able to finish the episodes I watched of family guy. This one I on't know why but it just....sucks. It was simply so less funnier than anything else.

Like, even back when the show was new I had friends who would watch it while I was hanging out and I'd just go "This is entertainment to you?" Never understood the appeal to anything Seth MacFarlane had left his fingerprints on. I'm in there, as well. Like, when I was younger when the show debuted (I'm talking 11-13), I actively hated Family Guy as a clone of The Simpsons when it debuted, even though that was more of it getting those unintended comparisons because "it's on FOX and it's animated", and then as I got older, I hated it more from a more technical perspective, such as how fans seem to love the random cutaways more than the storytelling to the point where maybe it would be better if they focused instead on just doing three short stories each week instead of attempting a full half hour episode, although that would mean a lot more work for a show where the weakest part already was the narrative, along with more minor nitpicks (characters falling down into a heap in, like, two frames whenever they got hit or tripped or something; characters explaining jokes before saying it; overreliance on live action segments to kill time, such as the Conway Twitty performances from "Hee Haw!"). It doesn't help that the writing for the series whenever I took a glance at it has deteriorated to where it went from "Let's just do Pop Culture: The Episode", to "Let's just do Seth's Political Views, Featuring Pop Culture References: The Episode", to "Let's just do Whatever South Park/Rick & Morty/Whatever Hip and Trendy Thing is Doing, Featuring Pop Culture References: The Episode". It also didn't help that, for example, "A Million Ways to Die in the West" showed that MacFarlane is terrible in comedy as a lead role given that the majority of the film was about the townsfolk shitting themselves to death.

Family Guy should be cancelled.
It's trash. I tried watching a newer episode and it was too goddamned dystopian for my tastes.

Since FG came back I have been saying it lost something. After season 5 or so I stopped watching.
Out of all the Seth shows the one I found to hold up the best is Cleveland Show. Tried Orville and didn't care for it. Mostly cause I have never cared for ST TNG and Orville to me feels like ST TNG.
But I do know piles of people that Sundays watch FG and Simpsons.

I'm so very glad that The Good Place is building towards a set ending, because while I doubt it'd have FG/South Park/Simpsons longevity, it could have easily dragged its heels through another couple of seasons had they wanted to pad things out, but the quality would have badly suffered.
I think there's a lot of pressure to keep a money maker going, and to protect your cast and crew by keeping a good gig for them operating, but it really kills the reputation of the show in the process.

I disagree with the OP. I thought Sunday’s episode was damn funny.

Are they still doing the "if you think that's bad..." cut away stuff? ....essentially? Not that blunt (and if it is that blunt, it's them acknowledging their reputation) but it still happens sometimes. They find slight segues to do that stuff nowadays.

I saw highlight clips of said episode, and albeit slight amused by the friends stuff, a lot of it seemed tired. Running through the motions and what-not.

Every time I realize I'm still watching Family Guy, I remember that I gave up on The Simpsons in 2000 for the same reasons that could & should stop me from watching Family Guy. And yet I persist... Unlike FG, The Simpsons had such lofty critical and thoroughly great full episodes that when it all began to descend, everything fell in quality. No big laughs that stood out, it just all fell. The lows f Family Guy are low but man those highs.......make me laugh HARD. Every episode manages to have a few. So I keep going....

Do they still do that thing where they just let a gag run for too long to pad out the runtime?

Do they still do that thing where they just let a gag run for too long to pad out the runtime? They absolutely do, and for the most part they are a waste. Every once in a while it works, but it very often does not. Those are the moments I literally get up and do something else, because I know it will last a while.

That one deleted scene from one of the DVDs where Quagmire rapes Marge Simpson and then murders the entire Simpson family is genuinely one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever seen. Seth can go f*** off for thinking that would be even remotely funny.

I gave up on FOX animation around the same time the OP gave up on The Simpsons. If you've even herd the song Stranger in My House by Tamia, you know why I can't with them.

Do they still do that thing where they just let a gag run for too long to pad out the runtime? Nah, they no longer have the license to play Conway Twitty music anymore.
