Ike Perlmutter really is a piece of shit

Bob Iger and Kevin Feige just openly talked about the fact that Perlmutter was openly against diversity, and tried to keep Captain Marvel and Black Panther from being made. The interview f***ing buries a guy who still works for their company.

When THR asked Feige if Perlmutter’s views on diversity helped spur the change, Feige was fairly open in his brief response.


"That's part of it,” Feige said. “There's a lot of sides to the story. You can pick up Bob Iger's book 'The Ride of a Lifetime' to learn more, I highly recommend it, but it made sense at that time. We had made ten movies or more that managerially, there was another way to go."


"Kevin is one of the most talented film executives in the business, but my sense was that the strained relationship with New York was threatening his continued success,” Iger wrote, according to Variety. “I knew I had to intervene, and so in May 2015, I made the decision to split Marvel’s movie-making unit off from the rest of Marvel and bring it under Alan Horn and the Walt Disney Studios. Kevin would now report directly to Alan, and would benefit from his experience, and the tensions that had built up between him and the New York office would be alleviated."


“We had a chance to make a great movie and to showcase an underrepresented segment of America, and those goals were not mutually exclusive,” Iger wrote. “I called Ike and told him to tell his team to stop putting up roadblocks and ordered that we put both ‘Black Panther’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ into production.”

I mean, from the Feige promotion and subsequent reshuffle, this is basically Bob Iger slowly pushing Ike to the edge of the cliff and hoping he jumps before he's pushed off. This is basically them handing him the parachute juuuust in case he wants to jump.

No offense to the OP, but it’s almost common knowledge in Marvel circles what a scum Ike is. Sexism and political leanings aside, the man pinches pennies so hard, Lincoln screams. Ask catering at any of the Marvel events. It’s part of the reason they were discussing recasting the title roles early on and each of the actors were contracted to three movies. But the popularity of RDJ and wanting to use Iron Man in Civil War changed that. Someday the tell all on Marvel Studios early days and the absolute fracturing during the production on Age of Ultron and Civil War will be told.

But yeah, not a fan.

Oh, I knew it was common knowledge. But for Kevin and Bob to come out and just bury the guy like that, and confirm what everyone already assumed/knew? You don’t see shit like that everyday

Honestly, Ike is like Vince in so many ways, and like Vince he'll never go of his own accord. While Vince will likely die at the helm, Ike will likely be forcibly retired.

He owns half a billion dollars worth of Disney stock and is a close personal friend of the President, practically running a government agency without ever being officially confirmed. He'll have a role within Disney as long as he wants one, even if it's not the one he'd like.

Yeah, even him not wanting to make the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies was common knowledge.

The Inhumans movie was only announced because that was Feige's compromise to be able to do them.

No sympy from me either. Dude hamstrung the MTVU right out the gate and stalled out otherwise perfect casting that could've made the Marvel experience that much more engaging to fans. I'm still hoping one day we'll see the Defenders on the big screen, but with each passing year it's getting more and more doubtful.

It seems to be common knowledge amongst studio insiders that Feige intends to use Daredevil and Jessica Jones as soon as the two year clause is up, with Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter looking likely to return (Ritter has walked back comments she made about being done with the role). As for the rest, who knows?

Nah man, Iron Fist is essential. Does he need recast? God yes. But I don't want to be cheated out of a proper Heroes for Hire. It's way too iconic of a pairing.
