I still say the Greedo scene should be removed entirely. We get the exact same information, worded almost exactly the same in the much more interesting scene with Jabba. f*** no, cut that shitty Jabba scene instead. Like was originally done in the first place!

(For those who can't get the embed, for some reason, we get a close up ot Greedo, saying what seems like "Maclunkey," just before Han shoots him (forst-ish, whatever the last Star Wars edit to that scene is still in place) I'm stunned. Is this scene just a magnet for editorial malarky (and now maclunkey) and nonsense? Way to completely undercut the scene, Disney.

November 12 will be known as the launch date of Disney + and the debut of the Maclunkey meme.

Way to completely undercut the scene, Disney. I may disagree. I've seen almost nothing but lol's and glee about this change. Disney has altered the Greedo scene and somehow, unlike Lucas and his SE's, brought us together in hilarity rather than split us apart in anger. Maybe this was Disney repaying George Lucas for salvaging Rise of Skywalker? I heard that rumor this weekend, is........is that really more than just some random Instagram post that I couldn't find any info on??

It was on one of the Blu-Ray releases before Lucas sold Star Wars to Disney, this is yet another edit by one George Lucas. It just didn't get much news traction at the time (outside of places like Star Wars subreddits and the like).

It all stems from this video: Given its Doomcock, there's a 200% chance it's complete bullshit peddling to the Fandom Menace for views. Since then it's been picked up by the ever reliable We Got This Covered, and consummate bullshit artist Cosmic Book News.

The Han/Greedo scene being changed again should happen once a decade. Just random changes, like in the next edit they're both wearing cowboy hats.

What's so difficult about the original f***ing scene that they can't stop meddling with it? It literally establishes the morality (or somewhat lack of) of the Han Solo character. It tells you this is a guy who will draw first if it saves his ass, which makes his character arc from ruffian to General of the Rebellion that much more interesting. Hell, Ron Howard ended Solo's climax with a "Han shot first" moment because he clearly loved the character as originally presented.
Don't get me wrong, ultimately it's just a movie. However, folks should at least have the option of purchasing the original cut in a modern format. Literally no other movie has ever been altered so pointlessly and frequently. Movies are art. You wouldn't see a painter going back and adding/altering shit to a museum piece for 40 years while simultaneously scrubbing the original mostly out of existence. It's just weird, pointless, jarring, and a clear waste of time/money/resources.

The theatrical cuts definitely need to be released, but it really is a question of time and money. They're not going to release them until a 4K remaster is done, and LucasFilm don't consider it a high priority right now, since the focus is on creating new content.
That being said, since they're taking a hiatus from movies for a few years, there's a window for them to do something besides TV shows...

It's just weird, pointless, jarring, and a clear waste of time/money/resources. As I recall Greedo was holding a gun and telling Han he was there to kill him, it isn’t even really that morally grey. A bit Wild West ruthless I guess, but that’s sort of the point. It’s practically the “if you’re going to shoot, shoot. Don’t talk.” scene from The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (I think)

It's like putting layer upon layer of makeup on Freddy Krueger. No matter how many times you do it, no matter how many changes and touch-ups you do, it's never going to look good!!!

Doesn't sound exactly the same, but it makes sense.

I will for the life of me neither get the changing of the scene nor the outrage about the change, it comes as one of the stupidest things I've heard relating to the star wars fandom.

That would have worked without the new huttese word.
They finally took out the awkward shot with the Greedo dummy, at least.

The edit job was really dumb-looking and made Han look like a chump for about 4 seconds, but the outrage was so over-the-top and ridiculous. It was the first thing I can remember that made the Star Wars fandom look like it was made up of reactionary manchildren who used "George Lucas Raped My Childhood!" as their war cry. And it continued with the prequel outrage and now the Fandom Menace.
