I can't believe the ratings are continuing to tank after they promised a new era earlier this year. I mean, they slightly modified the the entrance ramp and...they slightly modified the entrance ramp. What more can they do?

I often think about the type of audacity it took to make such a big deal about how they knew they weren’t putting out a product people wanted to see, how they’d change etc and then proceed to book the exact same schlock as usual. Like go back and watch that clip then think about some of the awful booking that happened following it.

We did get a Gooker contender of a segment with Lashley, Rusev, and Lana.
That was .....something, I guess.

I hate to say this but when I would watch NXT 4-5 years ago it kind of mortified me because I saw no one there that seemed like any sort of star on the main roster of WWE. But really the big question besides that is this: What exactly is WWE's target audience at this point? This was mentioned in the whole Rusev/Lana/Lashley thread about how distasteful that angle is for parents that have smaller kids watching. Ever since I have watched WWE I have thought I understood who they were targeting. In the 80s it was a general audience/family friendly product, which extended into the 90s except that audience outgrew the kiddie wrestling. By the late 90s they went into to Attitude Era and targeted a male 18-34 demo and on some level kept vestiges of it until going fully into the Cena kids era and the PG era. But now? I have no idea. The show is too risque to be kid friendly, but too uncool to appeal to the 18-34 demo.

I'm curious if spoilers led to a lot of people tuning out. I read the Lana/Lashley/Rusev stuff and said a big old "No thanks" to that junk. Also it seems like the UK fans always get the short end of the stick when it comes to these Raws (Sorry UK fans). I could be remembering it wrong, but it seems like every UK Raw has a tag match as a main event... and not the AEW kind of tag matches where you actually look forward to the match.

Found a list of the worst RAW ratings ever, as a snapshot of how this taped episode compared:
December 24, 2018 - 1.22 December 31, 2018 - 1.31 November 11, 2019 - 1.44 December 23, 1996 - 1.5 (rounded estimate) October 28, 2019 - 1.53 June 10, 2019 - 1.54 November 4, 2019 - 1.54 April 29, 2019 - 1.56 December 10, 2018 - 1.58 December 30, 1996 - 1.6 (rounded estimate)
What happened on April 29th and June 10th of this year to make those so weak?

Viewer's don't want none of AJ Styles and The OC in yet another 6 or 8 man tag main event. I hate matches that start out as singles matches and then get turned into 6 man tag matches. NO one asked for that. Ikr, Some usually fall into 2 categories when that happens 1. Their invested in the singles match for whatever their reason and now its turn into a tag match and they start to lose interest. 2. You just want this match over with and when it looks it's done with run ins, Bam now we have a tag match we're less interested in.

The show is too risque to be kid friendly, but too uncool to appeal to the 18-34 demo. Agreed about them not having a target demo, but taking it a step further, the one thing both the Hogan era and Attitude Era had in common was people had a reason to care about the characters. From the top all the way down, everyone seemed to get a reaction one way or the other. Granted those were both boom periods so the products were hot but the same general guidelines could be used in any era. Make the fans care about the characters. Give the characters realistic motivations. Have characters and stories progress logically even if the characters themselves are on the cartoony side. The WWE right now is a bad SNL skit just extended to 5 hours every week. There’s no reason for anything to actually exist. It happens, no consequences to anything that happens, and you move on. Telling your audience to turn their brains off when watching is a recipe to not bring in newer fans.
