Just got back from seeing this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Took my partner, my mum and her husband and we all really liked it. A really nice mix of cleverness and silliness.

Thought it was good, not great. A perfectly serviceable mystery that couldn't quite live up to the hype it's been getting.

Probably going to avoid in theaters because I don't like Rian's work, but good to know it's worth a Netflix.

PLOT IMPORTANT ITEMS MENTIONED BELOW I'm a mystery snob, and while I could guess the villain pretty well, I thought one of the clues was not played up enough: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}The viscosity difference of the two medicines just wasn't clear enough for anyone to pick up on, I think. I somehow didn't pick up on the main clue of {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}the dogs barking. I was watching specifically to see who the dogs were barking at, and I just did not interpret their behavior as barking at Captain America. Everyone I was seeing the movie with disagreed, though. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} Those medicines have no difference at all, saw it with my nurse friend and he railed about that to me afterwards. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler} There were a few things that didn't add up at all in the story. Like the 3 times she heard the stairs did not include going back up after grabbing a snack. Which would've implied that he never went back up if the stairs creak every time. There were enough weird inconsistencies to begin with that made me think the cops investigating the case might have been on the take to begin with. {Spoiler}With the stairs, you'd count going up and down the stairs as 1 instance as JLC's character wouldn't have had time to fall asleep and be woken 'again'. If you're going to count going back up the stairs as an extra one, then you need to count Toni Colette's character going back down as another one too

Probably going to avoid in theaters because I don't like Rian's work, but good to know it's worth a Netflix. I feel like he’s never going to make another movie in his career I like as much as Brick. Which has to be weird, never surpassing your first outing.

This was really, really fun. It’s a dramedy in the truest sense of the world, I was surprised how well it blended genuine sympathy and suspense with well timed humor. Also it was nice to see Craig show his range outside of the stoic Bond he’s played.

I ended up seeing this over the weekend based on this threads recommendation, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Despite Rian being known as the "subverting expectations" director, this is an example of how it can work out well. I only really knew surface level stuff about this film and didn't even watch the trailers. So despite being surprised about how the story was structured, I feel like by the end of it everything felt earned by the solid writing.
I still have no interest in Rian doing anything Star Wars, but I'm all for the guy doing more work like this. I loved Brick, and this very much felt similarly inspired in that vein. It felt like a more reserved Wes Anderson film in its style, which works for me since I sometimes tend to dislike some of the over the top quirkiness Wes can insist on.

Just got back, and that might have been my favorite night out at the movies for a new release in quite some time. I've been bummed for awhile about the death of the "middle class" of cinema, films that aren't big budget blockbusters or tiny indies getting a chance to shine, so this was right in the sweet spot. And yeah, it hit a really nice balance between lightheartedness and some real emotion, actually felt myself really tense up during certain scenes. Just really, really good stuff. I'm sure there are some inconsistencies or what have you with the layout of the plot or some of the small details, but outside of super egregious stuff I don't think that's how to watch films like this, you watch them for the script, pacing, acting, camera work, etc. that make it into an overall fun experience (e.g. don't get caught up in "plothole surfing"). Highly recommended, and yes, Southern Daniel Craig is a gem. EDIT: Little detail I really liked - {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}Blanc is looking at the bits of dried mud in the hallway from the hidden door and walks RIGHT by Marta's shoe with the blood drop on it, and you're sitting there going "OH GOD, HE'S GONNA SEE IT NOW."
But he doesn't.
Then you get to the end and, yeah...he saw that blood drop the second she walked into the room for the first time, he was just keeping an ace up his sleeve just in case it turned out to really be her.

Just got back from seeing the movie and I really enjoyed it. I thought it was very entertaining and balanced out genuine mystery with drama and humor very very well. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW} I think one of my favorite aspects was how the family treated Marta. They all claim to care for her, but know nothing about where she's actually from. Don Johnson's character treating her like a maid while they're talking about the immigration stuff was hilarious. Being told they wanted her at the funeral, but were outvoted. And even after all that, at the end she's still considering helping them out which just shows her kind nature.

Just got back and I loved loved LOVED it. The whole cast was great, the story was fun. I had a great time. {Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}I thought the twist was going to be he was alive and it was all a set up...I don't really know why he would have, maybe as part of a new book, but I was really skeptical because of how quickly he came up with the plan. Also he seemed lucid longer than Martha said he would be so I thought he had taken the medicine that would save him and have it hidden. Also the line about real knives vs a prop made me think the knife he used was a convincing prop, although it was fun to see that come into play.
Chris Evans had me fooled for a while. I thought he was going to end up having been in on it with the dad in some way, but at the beginning of the movie when everything was being presented as legit the first time I saw him I was like "oh, he killed him." I should have stuck with my instinct!

Him writing down a note about how efficient killing someone with morphine was got one of the biggest laughs in my theater.
