I thought this would be asking if Fuji ever wore the S & M gear. And if so, did he keep his bowler hat on?

In the post match interview they tried to explain it by having Fuji say that Demolition were getting "too big for their briches" and weren't listening to him while the Powers of Pain would listen. Ventura on commentary theorized it simply as Fuji seeing a better product and going for it. Problem was having Fuji put his plan into effect towards the end of a Survivor Series match made no sense at all. If they would've had Fuji turn on Demolition in a title match against POP and cost them the titles it would've made more sense at that way he would have in his mind the "better product" and he would also have the champions.

This has a rep as one of those WTH? angles/matches that just didn't make sense. It confused the hell out of the audience, because the way it played out, they thought POP turned face and helped poor helpless Fuji up after the evil Demos roughed him up and abandoned him. POP were already faces (and pretty over too, IIRC) though. You meant Fuji turning face, I reckon? Given Fuji's actions and how it played out that woulda made way more sense. It was an awkward turn. I watched that video recently and......yeah, Demolition beating up Fuji didn't get as rousing a pop as I'd remembered at the time. I f'ed up there, apologies. Meant to say "stayed face". Bleh.

It happened because the forces of fate and destiny had to conspire to bring about the perfect set of circumstances to allow for Ax bellowing "FUJ THE STOOGE". He sounded like the biggest goofball, when he said that.... and didn't stop..

I think thats what made it such a gangster moment: the Powers of Pain dusting off Mr. Fuji and handing him back his derby.

Well that plot came from the same mind that thought his exhausted 525 pound client should defend his newly won title against one of the greatest wrestlers of all time minutes after winning the title. Mr Fuji in kayfabe was a horrible manager. Yes, thats true, yet Squirrel Master has loved all things Mr. Fuji, since I was a kid.

It's a shame Road Warriors (understandably) were adamant that Powers of Pain had to be split when they came in, given I've got a soft spot for that team. Though, solo Warlord was a lot of fun, too, with the scepter and half-mask.

Thinking more about this, I wonder if the clumsy turn was done because Vince didn't want a heel tag team champion on the house show circuit, especially since they were going to do the Savage heel turn soon.

By the time they debuted for WWE, the Powers of Pain had been split for months.

I could swear that was one of the stipulations they had for coming in, or at the very least, WWF doing it to appease them. Demolition were obviously going for a pretty similar thing, but they were also different enough to stand apart, where Powers of Pain were way more obvious in wearing their influence on their sleeves.

Like I said, I was under the impression that the Warriors jump from WCW to WWE in 1990 all happened within a matter of a few weeks. They were on WCW's May 1990 PPV winning their match when the POP had been broken up for nearly 2 months by then.

"I made the Demolition. I made them champions. When I made them champion, their britches got too big for them. Their head was swelling up. They thought they know more than the Master. So the Master hunted and searched and I found these two and they will demolish the Demolition and make them suffer like the pigs they are. I did everything for them. I made them work out, run, exercise but they disrespect my discipline and in turn this is what's gonna happen to them. I turn against them, yes, and they will pay." I mean, why don’t heel turns explain it so well these days?

It must've been really awkward when Fuji linked back up with them in 1990. "Hey, so about that whole 'publicly ditching you for a younger team' thing: we're cool on that now, right?" I’m surprised Demolition took him back. They should’ve had Crush decide on his own to bring in Fuji, which Ax would be pissed about given their history, but Smash would be more easily convinced. This would’ve established Crush as the driving force behind the heel turn, and when Ax could no longer go in the ring, set it up for him to be kicked out (and betrayed by Fuji for a second time).

Thats a good idea. Though didn’t Demolition take Fuji back like the weekend before Survivor Series? So he and Ax were only together for like one show. Maybe this all happened off screen. Ax looked totally checked out at Survivor Series. “I’m not even gonna grease my hair back for this match if we’re going to be working with FUJ THE STOOGE!”

Knowing with hindsight that he was on his way out, it explains why he didn’t bother doing his hair toward the end.

Random Fuji question: did Hogan ever put Fuji’s bowler hat on? That had to have happened at least once.

Why would he turn on his team who at the time were the tag champions and presumably in Kayfabe the team that would make him the most money? Was any of this explained after? Master Fuji would stop managing his wrestlers and no reason was given. When I was a kid, I watched a Coliseum Video match featuring The Berzerker. Berzerker didn't have Mr. Fuji in his corner and commentator Gorilla Monsoon said Fuji doesn't want to manage The Berzerker because he doesn't listen to his instructions.

I could swear I saw something like this on a MSG show (via Prime Time Wrestling) once, but I cannot be quoted on that because it could just be me making up a memory. But it definitely FEELS like it had to have happened, yeah.
