NXT is live from Full Sail University following a banner weekend for the black and gold brand - coming off their first total viewers victory over AEW Dynamite, a great Takeover: War Games, and the victory over RAW and SmackDown at Survivor Series.
In case you haven't heard, John Pollock from POST Wrestling reported that Mauro Ranallo will not be calling tonight's show following tweets from Corey Graves heavily criticising his work. Looking forward to seeing Mauro back at the desk when he's ready.
Two title matches have been announced for tonight's show - the biggest of which is for the NXT Tag Team Titles. Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly of the Undisputed ERA defend the titles against two of the men who defeated them inside the WarGames cage, Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee. Following WarGames, Lee then produced a breakout performance at Survivor Series, eliminating Seth Rollins and taking Roman Reigns to his limits, so he's looking to maintain his red hot form and win the titles alongside his career rival. Will the Prophecy remain intact?
Lio Rush puts the NXT Cruiserweight Title on the line against Akira Tozawa - the former champion was in the three way match for the title at Survivor Series, and as Rush pinned Kalisto, that keeps Tozawa in contention. But Rush should also be concerned about Angel Garza getting involved, following a backstage incident at Takeover where Rush cold cocked him following his win over Isaiah Scott. Will the Man of the Hour keep everything together to retain the title?
Rhea Ripley and Candice LeRae upset the odds by surviving a four on two situation inside WarGames, with Ripley pinning NXT Women's Champion Shayna Baszler. However, this was overshadowed by the incident that created the disadvantage in the first place. Dakota Kai replaced Mia Yim, who was found attacked backstage, and as soon as Kai emerged third for Team Ripley, she turned back around and attacked her best friend Tegan Nox, going after Nox's surgically repaired knees. What's got into the leader of Team Kick, and what does she have to say for herself? And will Tegan be well enough to seek revenge?
Daddy's coming back for Goldie. Tommaso Ciampa scored the win for his team inside WarGames with a Kryptonite Krunch off the top of the cage on NXT Champion Adam Cole through tables. Ciampa will be relieved that Cole then came back the next night to retain the title against Pete Dunne, as the mission to get Goldie back wouldn't quite have been the same against the Bruiserweight. With the quest back on, when will the big title match go down?
All this, plus what's next for Finn Bálor following his win over Matt Riddle, tonight from 8/7c on USA!

I think the most interesting thing about tonight is what the viewership looks like - on one hand there won't be the main roster people hanging around this week more than likely, but on the other, maybe the value of NXT's own folks increased coming out of winning at Survivor Series.

There's also the factor of this being on the Eve of a holiday. I'm not sure if Wednesday wrestling shows are susceptible to drops on Thanksgiving Eve. For that matter, I don't even know if we've had enough Wednesday wrestling shows to even know until NXT and Dynamite air.

I hope Dijakovic and Lee win the titles. Undisputed Era are great and I'd miss Kyle playing air guitar with the belt, but the titles could use a fresh team holding them.

Hopefully Dakota continues that beating from Saturday. Tegan is a bad friend and I don't think she has fully learned her lesson

I was hoping for a little bit of a buildup first, but I’ve bern asking for LeeJakovic for weeks now and will happily see them take the titles. Maybe the rest of UE interferes to string this out a little longer. I’m just thrilled I get my team. The Bar 2.0 on our hands.

Looking forward to seeing Mauro back at the desk when he's ready. I fervently hope that Corey ends up miserable and alone for what he's done. He's toxic af and anyone associating with him at this point needs to be looked at with some measure of suspicion. These two are breakout stars, period. Push these two to the moon by any means necessary! This could be the widening of the wedge for the incursion of "main roster" superstars into NXT; it certainly would be a better fit for Tozawa for whom creative on Raw clearly has nothing and for whom NXT can provide a proper platform. The strongest suit NXT has against AEW is its women's division. The overall trend of heel turns aside, this may help the top of the division feel more competitive as Baszler's cohorts can now take a back seat and be built up while Baszler herself faces a flanking from both Ripley and LeRae Cole, and the UE as a whole, are overdue for a fall, I think. Whether it's because the world's gunning for their titles or because someone might be weaseling his way into the faction with designs to destroy it entirely remains to be seen. Absent from Survivor Series for the first time in three years, and not even part of the invasions in the run-up, one has to wonder (kayfabe) where Finn's loyalties lie (outside kayfabe) why he seems so done with it all.

I think we'll probably see a title match set up in the upcoming weeks between Shayna and Rhea. I also see Rhea going over. I don't think they will (nor should they) try to drag this angle out until Takeover: Portland.
That being said, I hope they don't relegate Io to the backburner either, since she's basically just as popular as Rhea, and should be the one to dethrone her when the time comes.

As much as I would like to see UE, reign of gold continue and wanted to see Lee/Dijak struggle a bit to get the titles, I would not be mad if they did the change tonight
Lee has a shit ton of momentum and Diajk as well is sitting pretty. Even if it is a short reign, you need to give it to them

Na, Io is right there with Rhea but Rhea has the slight edge right now due to the crazy weekend and her pinning Shayna. They have kept Io and Rhea neck and neck gunning after Shayna They still have Io and Candice in their back pocket so I can see that being a thing again

Even if it is a short reign, you need to give it to them I know this whole “ratings war” narrative was annoying from the offset in some ways but hey, it’d be a good way to capitalize off of last week and get people watching if they even hint at a switch happening. It’s a good strategy.

It’s a good strategy. It is insanely annoying but from a TV perspective it is a good pay off for a guy who looked like a star by pinning Rollins clean and getting the show of respect from Roman I expect shenanigans for sure to draw this out longer but either way from a casual fan perspective in first timers seeing Lee perform and a storyline perspective (all the battles Lee and Dijak went through) it just makes all the sense in everything for this match to happen

Yeah Lee and Djak can win tonight and lose them back to Undisputed Era before WM season hits. Cole and Roddy can help them win through shenanigans. Afterwards you can have Lee and Djak against Cole and Roddy for their titles during that WM Takeover.

It AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN, but I'd like to see Adam Amin fill in for Mauro given that he's set to call the Ole Miss/Mississippi state game tomorrow along with Pat McAfee but realisticaly we'll more likely get Vic Joesph (Or wheel out Dio Madden) filling in tonight though

So all this talk about Rhea winning the title off of Shayna
Here is my question is Rhea now a permanent fixture to NXT? or is this a situation HHH talked about not long ago where she is here just for a 6 month arc of sorts and it basically rotates.
Because I like Rhea but IMO if she is here only for a few month long arc before shipping back off to NXT UK...IMO Io should absoloutley be the one that takes the title off of Shayna.
