I can’t help but laugh when every instance of Jerry saying something out of left-field is followed by this awkward beat.

Got curious and fired up Hulu. This was after a promo where one of the only things Asuka said in English was "We beat you," and he was saying that was the one part he understood. So at least it didn't come out of nowhere. Shrug.

Yeah, given the context and the timing I absolutely believe the intention was mock Asuka not mock Asians in general, I don’t believe there was racist intent. However, it was still racist and it was a really f***ing stupid thing to say

I'll be upfront - pete's right. No, Lawler's offenses may not be on the level of some others recently, but he's been very much pushing it with some of his recent commentary, and is, if nothing, in poor taste and needs to be brought up. He and JR are both one slip away from something really bad. As for why it's not getting the level of heat of others...I think the unfortunate reality is, a lot of people are burned out from this stuff hitting so fast with so many things.

The announcers always get quiet for a few seconds after he says something like that too. It's clockwork. To the topic, yeah Lawler is trash. Ain't nothing new. We've been saying for a while he needs to get the hell outta here. I'll go on record and say personally I haven't seen anyone say they're cool with Lawler these days who doesn't work for the company. I've seen more people give Cole props than Lawler.

When you factor in the Humberto comment, and then this a couple weeks later keeping King out there is just playing with fire at that point. King really did pick the best possible time for these screw ups, because they both got buried under other stories

I don't really think there's "levels" to this stuff, ie "Well, King's comment was worse than JR's, but not as bad as Cornette's". There's enough tasteless comments in all of their histories to mark them as strongly prejudiced at best, flat-out racist/sexist at worst. All 3 of them are relics of another time that are clearly past the point in their lives where we can expect them to change their worldview (Lawler's 70!!). It would likely be for the best for them all to be put out to pasture (one seemingly already has been but never discount some scumbag in wrestling wanting the attention of a notorious hire).

Normally, I don't pay attention to the commentary since I'm working on my facts during matches. But, since I didn't watch Raw live, I read the results, organized everything and then watched it. So, I was 100% focused on the show, including the commentary, and I finally noticed what everyone has been saying about how bad Lawler is. None of his jokes are funny. I have no idea why Vince brought him back. He needs to retire. Samoa Joe did great, so maybe he can replace Lawler full time.

King really did pick the best possible time for these screw ups, because they both got buried under other stories King said his jumping bean shit the Monday after Saudi Arabia and it got buried under way bigger shit people were more concerned about. King's bullshit is really well poised luck-wise in all of this; "Didn't watch" made up a third of the Rate the Raw thread and considering there's only 45 votes and way more than 45 active users/lurkers on this section, the degree to which people are disengaged from the product and even a lot of those who do watch it live and in full are worn down by it all, King manages to avoid a lot of this getting noticed just for the relative lack of eyes on him. And if you go check twitter, there's people talking about it. It's not a mammoth story, but it's absolutely something people picked up on. But people have been sick of Lawler for years, I don't think "they dislike Cornette but give Lawler a pass" is the right angle, it really is an issue of timing. Nobody wants Lawler back and the criticism his commentary gets on a non-racist day is pretty dire. He's saved by circumstances and people being so removed from it that it doesn't get noticed. Contrast it even with Jim Ross's commentary, where it might not be getting dozens-of-pages threads, but it's seen as real shitty and sticks out in shows people are paying attention to. If this didn't even get a whimper here, I think that's saying more about the product and surrounding lack of attention paid to it. Even on the same show there's just so much egregious shit to be bothered by and so many things people want to talk about, where by contrast, Powerrr was a good show people enjoyed soured by a comment that stuck out like a sore thumb against the rest. It's easier for people to notice you shit on the floor when you aren't standing in a barn.

Didn't King JUST have one of these last week by the way? It's all running together for me now. Normally, I don't pay attention to the commentary since I'm working on my facts during matches. Dunno that I'm willing to say bye to him in-ring yet but it's not like he's been doing anything anyways. I kinda like that idea actually.

Honestly Lawler should have left commentary years ago. I always hates his brand of sexist/racist jokes.
Sign me in for him having some sort of consequences.

If the outcry of LARS FREAKING SULLIVAN had no effects I don't think WWE cares at all.I would be all in to make Lawler just stop his awful "jokes". It has to be something major like WWE glorifying a Pimp.

King had his day, but I kind of wonder what value that the WWE sees in paying this dude a righteous amount of money to be a trash announcer and creep on women three times as young as him. Lawler mentioned once that Vince told him that they had the same sense of humor so that’s why he’s probably still around.

It has to be something major like WWE glorifying a Pimp. The outrage over Lars Sullivan cost the dude $100k. Like, pretty much everyone here who felt he should be punished even thought that was a stiff punishment, that’s probably 1/2 year salary to him if not more. For something he said years before being under WWE contract, which is all sorts of f***ed up. And I’m not saying there shouldn’t be repercussions for the heinous shit he said, but WWE didn’t slap his hands they hit him with a f***ing bat EDIT: And I’m so not defending what he said, it was horrible. But WWE fining him $100k for something that happened before he was even an “independent contractor” of theirs is so, so f***ing wrong and one of the most egregious abuses of the IC/employee debate

There's so much bigger shit going on in WWE that becomes way more complicated and f***ed up than "Jerry Lawler said some dumb bigot shit again", and that's not to defend it in any way, but it's the rising and setting of the sun at this point and there's still contentious arguments over whether or not doing state propaganda shows for a murderous prince is a good or bad idea. It's just so much shit non-stop all the time and honestly there's also a factor of how many people will come out of the woodwork to complain about how offended and sensitive everyone is that makes people not want to throw themselves into threads sometimes for the frustration of not wanting to go through all the usual bullshit again.
