No one thought a thread was necessary for this PPV until Marty showed up.

Wow that's a great surprise. Might give NWA a watch now. Barrett being on commentary is awesome too.

No one thought a thread was necessary for this PPV until Marty showed up. The Cornette shit really killed all of the momentum NWA had going here. I checked this board for NWA threads since I still follow the shows, but I didn't want to open threads where I'd be talking to myself.

And tbh it's a shame cause I thought the PPV was great and really got the whole thing back on track after the Cornette crap and dwindling quality in the weekly shows. Stu Bennett is a glorious addition to the announce booth, the in ring action was quite good, the crowd was amazing and best of all, it was just a fun wrestling show to watch.

I won't be shocked if Marty ends up doing a sort of Cody-esque thing and pops up in different promotions for a bit to build up the buzz around his name before he lands in AEW. To be clear, there's still the potential that AEW doesn't end up being his destination for the near future; there's been buzz in the recent past that he's still interested in working with NJPW more, and maybe he wants to bounce around for awhile in the meantime at a point where the wrestling world will pretty much be his oyster. It's just hard to imagine that AEW won't be his ultimate destination given his connections there, think it's just more a matter of when than if. Marty would most absolutely be able to work New Japan and AEW. We already have a handful of AEW Stars who are either working NJPW already or want to. New Japan isn't turning down flexible deals, it's only good business for them. I wonder when we may see reciprocation for that, I know they said they're waiting to see how AEW grows, but on their end, they have no issue giving guys flexible dates. Since AEW has been doing weekly TV, the deal isn't incredibly flexible. Since then, Moxley has only shown up once, should have been twice and Jericho hasn't been there physically since Dominion. However, Marty is incredibly over in Japan and really caught on with the Japanese crowd as soon as he showed up. I also don't think this means Marty is not going to AEW. I'm sure they wouldn't mind him working with Corgan/Aldis, considering Cody has done the same and Aldis defended at the first All In. As far as disappointment, I really don't care if he doesn't go to AEW, and I am only disappointed if he ends up in WWE, but I still wouldn't blame him if they gave him enough money.

Am I the only disappointed Mil Muertes didn't show up instead of Marty Scurll? I've got no problem at all with Scurll, but when Aldis said that there was no man who could take the title from him and the lights went out, I was expecting it to be somebody that Aldis had never faced before so when Scurll came out, all I could think was, "Guess he's right, cause he already beat Scurll."

Am I the only disappointed Luke Harper didnt show up instead of Marty Scurll? I've got no problem at all with Scurll, but when Aldis said that there was no man who could take the title from him and the lights went out, I was expecting it to be somebody that Aldis had never faced before so when Scurll came out, all I could think was, "Guess he's right, cause he already beat Scurll." I just think it was a big missed opportunity to debut a brand new opponent for Aldis and Harper would've fit Stu Bennett's description of "biggest free agent on the planet" better given his release 6 days before the PPV. Luke Harper (as Brodie Lee) would just fit perfectly into NWA while Marty Scurll just seems much more like an AEW guy.

He can work 3 dates, be on a show for 6 weeks and do a ppv, just in those 3 days. Put over his buddy in a main event and give Aldis a little rub and then get to AEW with plenty of time before the PPV to build up a match, or debut at the PPV. Seems win win for everyone.

Just thinking of it, what if Marty didn't go to AEW? What if the heat he GOT for the Okada match was real and it rubbed him the wrong way enough that he doesn't want to work for them? Maybe he feels that Cody and the Bucks are jealous of his star appeal and don't want him to overshadow them. Of course that is reaching, but what if it actually is the case?

It is a much needed boost for the roster.

Harper has tons of potential he could be a modern day Bruiser Brody (especially after the unfortunate events that befell Jocephus) if they wouldn't went with Scurll. What has happened to Jocephus? Was he some kind of Bruiser Brody character? From what I saw he looked like a total joke in NWA. Pretty much a comedy jobber like Aron Stevens.

Doubt it is exclusive but it is a nice side trip for him As i've been saying for a good min, Marty doesn't need his friends to be over unlike Adam Page who needed them. Marty can take his time and potentially branch out to do his own thing but I see this as a detour more than anything If anyone seriously thinks that Marty Scurll passed on WWE and AEW money to work a long-term exclusive deal with NWA of all places...

Has to be him, who else could it be?

I think the person you’re quoting was making a tongue in cheek reference to Jocephus disappearing and nobody realizing he’s the Question Mark. Also, NWA National Champion Aron Stevens?

If anything, he's probably going to have to deal with reapplying for his Visa if he wants to work with WWE or AEW, and that could take months, so this is a good way to wait that out.
