https://www.instagram.com/p/B6I7b2bnuJz What are some actors and actresses you can think of that transformed their body for acting roles. My man went on the diet and got right for the Eternals Obviously add Christain Bale for what he did to himself for The Machinist

There’s a lot but a weird one to consider is Rock slimmed the f*** down early on in his Hollywood run and then tank’d up to ridiculous point that e isn’t even in now. Brando is another one though that sadly wasn’t for a role. I dunno how drastically different he was before, but Billy Zane got jacked for Phantom in a time where it was literal spandex. I’ve heard Reeves had to bulk up as well with the help of David Prowse for Superman. And there’s all the Marvel ones, but Rudd stuck out to me as not being the type to work out but succeeding with the look for Ant-Man. Though he claimed a lot of it was just not drinking beer anymore. Edit: and someone brought up Hugh Jackman, and everyone knows how hard he worked to maintain the physique all those years, but seeing him in the first X-Men compared to The Wolverine is striking.

Can add Chris Pratt to that as well

You can add in Hugh Jackman with his Wolverine transformations. In the first X-Men he flat out admitted he was nowhere near in shape for the role and Singer had to shoot around and use angles to give off the imposing presence.

Anyone remember The Sessions, the movie with Helen Hunt as the sex therapist for a man in an iron lung? John Hawkes legit curved his spine to match Mark O'Brien's posture.

Hugh spoke about that scene in the second comparison picture. For that scene he intentionally dehydrated himself in order to give off that real ripped result that we're seeing. He mentioned how he had a horrible, horrible headache, was light headed, and almost fainted due to depriving himself of water. He stated it's not anything he recommends and most likely he wouldn't do it again.

I always heard Robert De Niro gained a lot of weight for raging bull but didn't realize just how much until I saw the movie for the first time last week.

I think we can all agree Bale is the king for this. His mid-2000s were insane, dropping to 121lbs for the Machinist, bulking up to 221lbs over the following six months for Batman Begins, then dropping to 190lbs in the six weeks before filming began because he'd gained too much weight. You can add in Hugh Jackman with his Wolverine transformations. In the first X-Men he flat out admitted he was nowhere near in shape for the role and Singer had to shoot around and use angles to give off the imposing presence. To be fair to Hugh, the movie was already like a month into filming when he was cast and in a roundabout way it kinda worked for the character for him to be as lean as he was then. Logan had been a drifter for years at that point, so while it's impossible for him to starve to death, he can still lose mass.

And Bales said he wanted to go lower than 121 but didn’t cuz of the whole could of died thing. Kudos to RDJ too (who didn’t really have to, but ‘twas a different time) for bulking up for the original Iron-Man considering he is naturally a pretty small dude.

Does D'Onofrio still have the record for Full Metal Jacket? Or has somebody else ruined their body for a movie worse?

Does D'Onofrio still have the record for Full Metal Jacket? Or has somebody else ruined their body for a movie worse? D'Onofrio still holds the record at 70lbs gained, narrowly beating out Jared Leto. Leto gained 67lbs and gave himself gout by drinking pints of microwaved ice cream mixed with soy sauce and olive oil.

Jesus Christ. Couldn't Leto just like...eat pasta, candy, and baconators all day? Lay around watching tv and playing video games.
Or, last time I checked, I don't think Eddie Murphy gained 300lbs. for The Nutty Professor movies. But I understand if they didn't have the budget for all that.

Jared Leto sucks so much. I definitely disagree. He's eccentric as hell but he's a talented actor and is very much dedicated to his craft. I just feel he gets a bad wrap from stories that are most likely exaggerated in order to add to his method acting.

Ryan Gosling also went with the drinking melted ice cream method and gained 60lbs for his role as a depressed grieving father in Lovely Bones. I say "his" role, but when he showed up to set Peter Jackson decided that depression weight was not what the role required and recast with Mark Wahlberg.

Hmm...Charlize Theron for Monster is up there. Gained 30 pounds, wore fake teeth and shaved off her eyebrows. She's done that weight loss/gain thing for roles a few times, really.

I lost 50 pounds in one month Ben: How much beer were you drinking? Andy: Ha ha. I know, right? Probably too much....
