no matter how disenchanted I am with the product or even how bad the previous Rumble match was, I can't help but look forward to the Royal Rumble match (or matches now) each year

no matter how disenchanted I am with the product or even how bad the previous Rumble match was, I can't help but look forward to the Royal Rumble match (or matches now) each year It's one of the greatest match concepts in wrestling history. Mass participation, tangible stakes, a mystery element with the unannounced entry order or even the entries themselves at times, centered around a match type that is easy to understand for a non-fan... It's hard to stuff up a Royal Rumble (goodness knows they've tried, though).

I posted this in the thread about Houston hosting the Rumble, but in case anyone missed it: WWE will be using a setup similar to last yearβs show with the wrestlers coming out of the dugout. It looks like this one wonβt have the slight bend in the aisle.

The best PPV of the year. Hoping for a better mens Rumble after last years average one.

I loved that baseball field setup. ......really loved the bend too (SO old school), but if this field thing is a tradition for Rumble now then thumbs way up.

Watched some of them in a bar and the atmosphere is amazing when a surprise pops up or someone popular wins.

Usually the Rumble is a selling point for me regardless but honestly this year I really don't have any investment in who wins either one. I dunno, might see how I feel come showtime, but given I'm prepared to drop money on NJPW at the start of the month I'm not feeling terribly tempted to give more to WWE presently.
Also not that they have the good sense to do this but Brock desperately needs to lose the belt on this show. He is just this huge black cloud hanging over Raw at the moment.

Since I've sworn off watching, I've been wondering if I will bother to do my Women's Rumble Stats this year. I might just hand the data over to someone else.

i just hope the pacing is better. Women's rumble took an eternity and the men's was rushed. There had to be like 30 second intervals.

This year they do desperately need to open with one Rumble then close with the other. Putting them both late in the show is just exhausting.

Royal Rumble is the best concept in wrestling history bar none.

I want Kofi and Morrison thrown out at the same time and they both land on their hands and have this extended capoeira handstanding fight sequence outside the ring trying to eliminate each other.

What do you guys think was the best rumble of the 10βs? Iβd probably say 2018 followed by 2017. A lot of forgettable ones this past decade and some god awful ones like 2010 and 2015.

It's hard to stuff up a Royal Rumble (goodness knows they've tried, though). It's even better when you know the story on how the Rumble caught on. The first one they ever did was at a house show, and it was a disaster because no one really comprehended the rules, and it left Vince with a bad taste in his mouth. But when WWF brass collaborated with USA execs on ideas for a TV special, they liked the idea of the Royal Rumble match because Dick Ebersol likened it to run ins during a match, except they were both legal and continuous. So, the reason this concept has become a pillar of WWE's booking and calendar year is because it's basically official outside interference.

I ditto everything said so far and add that it also gave birth to maybe the greatest performance of all time, Bobby Heenanβs commentary in 92. It was a great card that night and Heenan was on fire but when the rumble started Heenan slipped into a whole new gear. He actually had me on my feet cheering when Flair won. And then I realized he was the heel. Best match ever.

Who do you think gets the shot at Lesnar here, assuming he wrestles? Iβve read some rumblings about Ricochet. That would be fun.

I'd guess they'll get back on the Reigns bandwagon and have him defeat The Fiend at WM.
