One thing that struck me as odd was Rey doesn't use force lightning again after using it to blow up the ship she thinks Chewie is on, you'd think Palpatine would want her to strike him down with that rather than a Jedi lightsaber

I dunno if I'm still going to bother with this movie or not. I was going to see it tonight but that got delayed until tomorrow, then with the reviews and the spoilers just sounding very not good (especially the Kylo redemption shit) I'm kind of more finding myself going, "Eh, screw it."

Man, I'm not a fan of TLJ, but they way they retconned it to death to appease the fanboys really pissed me off.
I had a reasonably good time, especially with the chemistry between our leads being intact again. But goddammit, all that BLOODLINES AND REDEMPTION shit was the worst.

This trilogy is an interesting study on two directors with conflicting ideas for the story undercutting one another to various successes. I don't know what led to this muddled and confused trilogy, but you either need some sort of long term plan for a series, or at least keep one or two creative names attached throughout.
Like, The Last Jedi did nothing to benefit what setup had been established in movie 1, and seemed more interested in completely undercutting them. At the same time it left absolutely no hook for the finale, leaving that one feeling almost completely detached from the movies that led up to it. I don't know how this happens with a company like Disney.
Also it's always a sign of bereft creative when you have to pull out the clone card.

This trilogy managed to alienate half of their diehard fanbase, and then turned around and blanked the half that stuck with them in a failed attempt to avoid a second TLJ backlash.
It's just amazing that a small Yoda puppet has managed to generate more hype in a couple of weeks than the hacks at top of Lucasfilm have in half a decade.

Honestly its surreal that one could go back to 2010 and tell a disbelieving someone about all the improbable cinematic successes that occurred (the genre films of the MCU, a critically acclaimed Planet of the Apes Reboot Trilogy, an unsettling character drama about the Joker) and then mention that it was the Disney owned Star Wars trilogy that completely fell apart.

I'd figure this movie is still going to make a ton of money regardless of the critical consensus, really.

RoS will likely have more revenue, but between its reshoots and Joker's very modest budget, there's a very good chance the latter will be more profitable overall.

Seen it, hated it. I'd try to say something positive but I'm tired and grumpy. And sad and quite pissed off after watching it. Bloody trainwreck of a movie.

I'd figure this movie is still going to make a ton of money regardless of the critical consensus, really. Jabba: A Star Wars Story could consist of two hours of Jabba the Hutt heading to the latrines to do his business, take a crap (all sound effects), and then head back to his throne, and make a solid $450 million on the international market. As damaged as the Star Wars brand is currently, they can still make the money. It remains to be seen if this film will have them lose more money in the future on the IP, which is where the liability issues arise. Worst case scenario, Disney may start doing un-Disneylike things.

So how did she go from this To this? I guess she just gets turned on by murdering psychos like Padme.

I’m all over the place with RoS. The stuff that I loved, I REALLY loved. But there was also a whole bunch that made me roll my eyes.
I do think it’s a satisfying conclusion to the series.

I loved some parts, hated others. Overall I'm disappointed. The pacing was way off—too much was happening too quickly, nothing was really left to develop slowly or sink in. Too many death fake outs, too many baffling character decisions and too much Palpatine. I wouldn't have thought there was too much Palpatine if his return had been set up at all in previous movies, but it went from nobody even thinking about him to BANG; have ALL the Palpatine. I feel like a movie was missing between TLJ and TROS. And where did the First Order ships go? They were there, Hux was killed, and then all we heard about was the Last Order and their ships. The FO was forgotten about. Are they still hanging around, too? Did they crumble into dust? Did all of the senior officers decide to desert and hit the tables at Canto Bight after Hux, Pryde and Kylo Ren all disappeared?
There were some positives. I liked all of the action scenes, the trio had good chemistry, I liked Jannah (and wow, she even got a cohesive backstory) and I didn't hate Kylo's turn to the light. I thought it was inevitable so I'd braced myself for it, and I thought it was handled about as well as it could be. The scene with Han was well done and I thought Adam Driver played the differences between Kylo and Ben well (Driver has been probably the biggest highlight of the trilogy, IMHO.)
I think that one of my main gripes though is that the ending somehow didn't seem happy and hopeful enough. The Resistance won and Rey got a surname, but it just didn't land as a good ending. ROTJ ended on the right note, but this one didn't.

Vader’s grandkid and the Emperor’s grandkid would totally have f***ed if the one didn’t die.

Giving Carrie Fisher top billing was really sweet.
