If the Million Dollar Man was so rich in kayfabe, why didn't he just hired an entire posse of guys to have his back instead of just one Virgil? I mean, maybe that was an inside joke of some kinda that a man as rich as DiBiase was so cheap that he didn't think to hire anyone else apart from Virgil?

He is still a wrestler. He is a man in excellent shape and a skilled fighter. He may not like to get his hands dirty but if a situation is too much for Virgil he can kick some ass.
Besides he is a heel. Most faces are not going to gang up against two men.

I think since he was a pro-wrestler billed at 6'1" and around 250lbs., he didn't need a lot of extra muscle. When he hired Andre, it was more for a guaranteed winning partnership. Virgil was more of an insurance-policy.

Well, he did hire Andre to win the title for him and be his 3rd. You don’t need a posse when you have Andre.

In kayfabe, you could say that you are only allowed to bring one person with you to ringside. I imagine outside the ring, he paid for a larger security detail.

Those vignettes still only showed him and Virgil as he bullied children out of their pool and muscled his way to a table at a fancy restaurant.

Because for certain things, The Million Dollar Man was cheap about. Like when he knocked that basketball away from the kid.

He originally had 100 candidates but he locked them in a room and only Virgil walked out. Virgil: baddest man on the planet(except in WWF, he couldn’t compete with the faces Godlike powers)

He only ever had to pay Virgil in meat sauce. That's why he was so rich.

I saw it as the same reason Lex Luthor wants to kill Superman with his own hands, rather than employ someone to do it.
Ted wants the WWF title. Something his money and power cannot buy. He needs to get his hands dirty, and take away the only beacon the Superman like Hulkster had.

Ted was badass; he didn't really need a bodyguard as everyone thought twice about jumping him, even Randy Savage. His bodyguard Virgil was simply there to absorb the first punch of the fight, and to run interference.

Yes, that's what makes the narrative so good. He failed by his own hand and realizes there's other dastardly means to employ to get what he wants. It can logically tie into him seeking out the devilish and supernatural Undertaker to stalk Warrior and Hogan in 1991.

In hindsight, Dibiase using his money and influence over the Undertaker in the early 90s would've been perfect for him to win the title off either Hogan or Warrior, pre-Flair. I would've 100% preferred DiBiase instead of Sgt. Slaughter, if Undertaker happened only a year earlier.
