"When I started feeling burnt out, I left. When I started feeling creatively unfilled, I made changes-constant reinventions but not forced. Every kind of aspect of my character through the years has been something that I just thought felt right. You couldn't say "Le Champion" unless you had total commitment to it to get it over. If not, it's just a fake French word that sounds kind of dumb. But if you say it with conviction, suddenly everyone's calling out 'Le Champion.'" "All those phases of Jericho (Pain Maker, The List, Y2J) they were where I was at the time. I can't go back and play Y2J the same way Robert Plant doesn't want to go sing Led Zeppelin songs anymore, he just doesn't feel it. That's why I went to AEW because I knew if I went back to WWE, the first thing they're going to want me to do is put somebody on The List and I just don't feel that anymore. I just have to recreate, rediscover, and be something new. If you like what I'm doing, enjoy it, because once I'm finished with it, I'm not going to come back to it." www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2020/01/chris-jericho-talks-being-considered-for-the-nwo-665120/

I think it's one of the reasons Jericho's had such longevity. Also shows when he's at his weakest character wise it's when he's playing a stale character that he knows is stale.

That's what I loved about his entrance at Double or Nothing. He teased a bunch of his old characters and gimmicks like the Lionheart, Y2J, Sparkly Jacket, and The List of Jericho. Then "Judas" kicked in and we got the current incarnation.

Jericho always reinvents himself and that's why I respect him. I think that this version of Jericho takes all the best parts of each of his incarnations and throws them all together.

As others mentioned, that’s what makes him so adaptable. Even as a heel right now where he rags on the audience for loving his old stuff and then brings out something that’s obviously that but “completely” different is a thing that his characters would do.
Basically outside of the Inner Circle hype for Jericho, the “Lexicon of Le Champion” was the hardest I laughed at a wrestling show intentionally in years.
EDIT: That and “It’s official, we shook hands!”

The best wrestlers are the ones who are either trying out new stuff constantly, be they new routines or moves, or modifying their gimmick so as they can keep working with a variety of people. Jericho in AEW is basically a kid in a playground, especially since he has more freedom.

This is why Jericho is the GOAT. He knows when to re event himself to make himself fresh. At 48 He still one of the best acts in wrestling because he finds new things to get over. You look at the WWE and a lot of the talent is the same thing and it's stale. I mean John Cena for years was the prime example of it. There are cases when old becomes new again but rarely does it last before the nostalgia wears off. I mean sure some would say the Undertaker been stale but most still love the deadman.

The Thanksgiving celebration segment was probably the funniest thing I’ve seen on any wrestling show in 2019. “His name is Chris JeriGOAT!” I remember laughing so hard I could hardly breath. Jericho is probably my favorite wrestler and this very reason is a huge part. Dude never seems to get stale, and when he begins to he'll either take a step back from wrestling to recharge or flip the act on it's head. Damn, I need to reread his first book again. As much as I can't stand some of his bio stuff, like his drinking antics or Fozzy stuff, his story up until WWE is so fascinating.

I don't think Jericho is the best in-ring wrestler ever (although he's definitely no slouch in that area), but as far as longevity, reinventing themselves and just completely getting the character/story side of wrestling, there's a strong case for him being the GOAT. He's one of the few top guys that seems to understand that you need to put people over and bring them up with you, instead of just burying them.

It’s a really smart tactic. But also requires continuing creativity in order to succeed and Jerichos got it in spades.
Constantly when I see him on AEW these days, I’m amazed he’s as hot and successful as where he’s at, at his age. Just incredible. Jericho’s always gotten the “he’s not the best, he’s a jack of all trades” card all his career, but when it’s all said and done with his career, there will be little to no doubt he’ll legitimately go down as one of the greatest of all time.

Dude is gold. Him telling MJF, "What kind of man wears a scarf?!" is just perfect. Jericho is definitely one of my favorites of all time.

Oddly for a long time the Undertaker did evolve. Grey Zombie -> Purple Undead/Masked ->Brother of Kane -> Ministry -> American Bad Ass - > Respect Me .... Then he went back to being the Deadman and it stalled from then on til now.

Super serial Jericho was so money but I think the mute Jericho was my personal favourite. Man people on here were so pissed off about that the third week in.

I think it was the second or third week of his return and he was in the ring getting ready to do a promo, but he got overwhelmed with emotion and started crying. On paper it doesn't sound hilarious, but the way the audience booed coupled with the timing of entrance music as he exited the ring was great. Also, during that time he was booked to be in a 6-man tag match, I don't remember his opponents or partners, but the second he was about to hit some offense, he tags himself out and walks out on the match.
