Dunno what Prichard's referring to, but he never worked the Memphis office, so he wouldn't have a clue, so far as I know. Looking elsewhere online, I'm seeing that Masked Patriot may have made a racist statement before the match (something to the effect of he "didn't want to lose to an n-word"), and I can buy that. Yeah my best guess without any more evidence is "I'm guessing something racist happened". In Memphis? couldn't be

If I had to guess, and it's just guessing, I think he was maybe angry about the guy locking up right away and pushing him in the corner. Maybe he didn't want a jobber taking the offensive like that, or the guy stiffed him through incompetence or something. Koko's not a guy I typically see get brought up for his temper, but yeah, he's obviously really angry here. He briefly got fired for an incident with a WWF official in early 1989 so there's a small pattern of behavior. Why he isn't known the being that way I guess because he was such a small fish in a big pond (WWF). Based on his actions in this match, I can definitely see him trying stuff with lower level guys in territories. One site I read had an indy wrestler telling a story of Koko either chopping him or hitting him pretty hard to which the wrestler questioned what was happening. Koko eventually told him it was because the guy "lit a fire" in Koko bringing up his younger years. It's probably really him taking liberties but came to his senses and found a way to get out of a bullying claim.

That’s a pretty pedestrian chop he hit him with so I’m thinking there was more to the story.

He was a big deal. He played hockey with Gretzky in his first season as an Oiler too, in the WHA.

Ok, I swear I saw discussion of this very video (with the same conclusions being come to - the chopping and/or the nasty racist words said to Koko) a few weeks ago..........somewhere else? I thought it was here (with Mr. Carter involved?) but maybe on Twitter...?
If I'm time traveling or seeing the future can't I just be able to clearly remember it and/or profit off it?

He looked pissed from the moment he walked out. Something had to have been said to him or about him from The Masked Patriot.

His opponent must have been acting like a total bird brain. Koko just had a ton of high energy.

Heenan: Guy must have said something mean about his mother Tupper. Was this a Heenan line? Genius as usual if so.

Take it for what it's worth, but Paul Roma has claimed Koko started punching him backstage in Chicago one night and Roma resisted fighting back because he was afraid he'd get fired. There are indications Roma provoked it by calling him Buckwheat and generally just being Paul Roma.

The look Koko gives MP after the match and getting out of the ring. Yeah, whatever it was, this was personal for sure.

Every once in a while this video makes it way back into discussion boards or facebook. I saw it maybe less than two months ago somewhere else and then maybe a few years prior on another site.

Only saw this first a few months ago, when...I think it was a conversation about Virgil, someone bringing up a couple of out-of-character pissed off stiff squash matches Virgil had around '92/'93 or so.
And this got mentioned and posted, as an example of a normally really chill and mild-mannered guy in Koko just slapping a guy about. Still protected him on the brainbuster, mind, didn't screw with something as potentially damaging as that.
What happened in the ring did seem rather innocuous, so, yeah, feeling like it was something that was started backstage.

That's what Koko will do to someone if they question his place in the HOF

Just realizing, did Vince give Koko the B. in his name?
