I take them out. I get them for my enjoyment not potential monetary value.

Even with stuff that I have on display rather than actively play with, I always take them out of the box. Being able to pose or group figures together is more aesthetically pleasing than a bunch of boxes.

i do my best to get them out of the box without harming the box much. I do store the boxes in my closet

Out and play as a kid, keep them boxed as an adult.

also, gotta add, if there's a battery included in the toy. I open it up and remove the battery.
For example my Digivice 01, it's best displayed in it's box. so i opened the container carefully, removed the battery and checked that things were good. and sealed it again with some clear tape.
I don't collect toys or anything for "Value". I'm not planning to sell them anytime soon if ever.

Both.
I've kept all my Pop Vinyls in boxes, just so I can stack them.
Some other stuff I keep in packaging if I like the design, other stuff think looks nice displayed out of the box

It depends. if it's vintage in/on a mint box or card then I'll leave it in.
I can go either way with modern stuff. If the packaging is awesome then I'll likely leave it MOC. The current ReAction stuff that Super 7 is putting out has awesome artwork on it for example so I leave them MOC.

Play with it. The thing about collectables is people his know they're collectable so the price will never get into the absurd figures the way that older lines did. People bulk buy them just to sit on them in the hopes of them becoming a goldmine, which they won't do because so many others have had the same idea. On Top of that, rare stuff can be recreated and reissued to satisfy fan demand, rendering them less desirable. Look at all the people saddled with nearly worthless Episode 1 merchandise.
The toys that end up climbing in price tend to be the ones no-one wants, the cash in recolours to bulk out the end of a retail line, stuff that hangs around and you don't think is worth it.

I have no plan on selling them and it's easier to showcase stuff without cumbersome boxes taking up what little space i do have so let 'em breathe!

Transformers Masterpiece, Black Series Star Was, Neca Godzilla I love to have them unboxed on display.
But I have one thing I keep in a box the Greg Capullo DC Comics Designer Series of the Red Hood. Which was an impulse buy from a comic book store in Canberra in 2015. Don’t know why, feel inclined to keep it in the box.

I open everything. Any window box packaging gets thrown out.

If the only purpose is going up on a display wall, I keep it in the box. Easier to clean and later store. Better value also if there's an aftermarket.

Man, when I did, I took that shit out. Saw no point in keeping it in the box. Personally.

Depends. My Amiibo’s are all opened, because I have the space to display them. But a lot of my McFarlane’s Sports Pick figures are still in box, because it’s easier to display them hanging on the wall and I just don’t have the shelf space to display most of my loose ones

I don't collect toys anymore but when I did, I collected Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Star Wars.
Transformers obviously I took out of the box, even limited edition ones and stuff, because I liked to have fun transforming them a few times before displaying them. G.I. Joe's got displayed out of package because most of my collection was ones I still had from childhood, and the main toy dealer I went to in the pre-Internet days mostly sold them loose.
Star Wars on the other hand, I liked the movies as a kid but didn't start collecting the toys until I was about 18 or 19. I kept them in the package and hung them with thumbtacks from their top hole thingie that they use to hang them on pegs at stores.
It just depends I guess.

My Marvel Legends X-Men collection have been opened, but I keep them in package when I store them. My WWE Elite collection is completely open, no packages kept and I put in a bin when I'm not posing them. No packages is great for space, but I worry about paint rub. The rest of my figures are opened and left in packages like from Lightning Collection Power Rangers, NECA, Figma, Figuarts and the same for the MAFEX stuff I preordered.
I guess the only rule I have for keeping stuff MOC is when I have that character already opened. Like I had a Classic Superstars Hulkamania Hogan opened so I've never opened my Hollywood Hogan. I'm not someone has to have different versions of the same character, just my favorite. Unless it's a marked improvement like the recent Elite Rock.
