I prefer WWE Alumni surprises over seeing these guys I don't really care about.
The surprise comebacks were the best parts of some rumbles, and they killed those for NXT

I disagree entirely. There's absolutely room for both.

I’d be fine with NXT in the Rumble if they got some proper time. Riddle was a waste, Lee had some cool moments but also wasted. If you’re gonna showcase them, do it properly. Let them go 10 minutes and get a few shine spots

I couldn't disagree more. I'm usually a big fan of the past stars coming back, but I thought the NXT stuff in the Women's Rumble was well done. I was happy to see people like Bianca, Mercedes, and Toni in it. There should be a mix of both.
Sooner or later, the nostalgia well's going to dry up and they're going to need to work with the talented wrestlers they already have.

It's the idea that NXT is now on par with Raw and Smackdown. There are no "rookies." Doesn't mean a Rumble cannot have surprise returns, but if NXT are treated as just filler without winning, like most surprise returns, then I would agree.

Keith Lee made the entire Lesnar portion of the Rumble worth it.

Let's see, guys who are going to be there for the foreseeable future, and possibly becoming a huge star one day, or someone who's only in there so you can "oh, it's whatshisface" who then gets a couple moves in and then quickly eliminated. I'm going to go with, highlight the younger guys and get them over with the crowd so the WWE doesn't HAVE to survived on nostalgia.

I just wish they’d have been treated better this time. Andrade, Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, got decent runs in previous Rumbles. This year Matt Riddle was there and gone.

Replying to keep the KUSHIDA train going. We need more NXT guys and better used as well.

Weren't there two of each (Lee & Riddle and MVP & Edge)? That's as balanced as you can get.

I think NXT has gone back to being the red-headed stepchild of WWE.

I'm an idiot and I missed the Men's part of the thread title, but I still stand by what I said. I would've liked to see Lee and Riddle get more time, though.

There were literally two NXT guys in the Men's Rumble. And the problem with having Alumni cameos is that most of the guys that fans care about are either (a) dead or at least physically unable to be cleared, or (b) have been done to death already. The guys who should have been fun little cameos by now either have never left (Dolph, Kofi, etc.) or never got over even remotely close to how their predecessors did (basically the rest of the midcard from the mid-2000s on). There are only so many times Godfather can be in the Rumble before it stops being fun.

The problem with it is that there is no drama or belief currently that an NXT guy could win. So it's like the legends in that their presence is for a pop and the more often you do it the less of a pop it's going to even get when everyone knows you aren't winning.

Let’s look at this from a simple marketing perspective.
NXT is on Network TV.
The second biggest audience of WWE fans for PPV watches the Rumble event.
They also happen to have a rival on Wednesday nights that they need to get more eyes away from.
Ergo, you showcase the NXT guys in the match to make people want to watch it.
Nostalgia is great but nostalgia is why the company is where it is right now. They need to promote the future NOW!

I’m almost glad they didn’t use WALTER, because having him get jobbed out again after a hell of a performance at Worlds Collide would’ve been a mistake.

Now that NXT has an actual TV network deal & thus more exposure, I’d expect to see more NXT guys in the Rumble going forward.

I agree, but for completely different reasons. I don't want the NXT talent wasted and sacrificed for the sake of shit stories like the men's rumble had.

Don't worry. There will be plenty of NXT in Men's Rumbles for you. Nobody will take away your precious NXT in Men's Rumbles. In fact, tell my secretary I said you can have a free NXT in Men's Rumbles. She'll make everything alright. I promise.
