Not WWE but when Cody spiked his head in the AEW title match Jericho did an excellent job playing to the crowd to let Cody recover, then took the match slow but still entertaining and as the pace picked up he was still protecting him.

There's one of the Jeff Hardy/Umaga matches where Jeff slips and falls head backwards but Umaga manages to catch him in midair. iirc one of them happened on an escalator or something utterly stupid in a falls count anywhere.
There were a few similar tributes when Umaga died.

This is a sorta sideways example, but I'll always remember Kidman hurting himself with a messed-up shooting star press, and then Steve Regal ad libbing and acting like he was relishing the chance to beat up on an unfortunately wounded enemy, and then leading the obviously addled Kidman through a rollup so he could win like planned anyway. Not really protecting his opponent so much as working around an injury in a safe way.

Does all the wrestlers coming to protect Bret Hart at the Hall of Fame count?
He didn't get hurt (but easily could have), but he sure got protected.

Well, last week on Backstage Paige told the story of her match against AJ Lee at Summerslam 2014 and how f***ed up AJ's neck was going into it and how she did her very best to try to protect AJ throughout the match so as not to make the injury worse.

Not sure if it would count, but Owen stalling for time when Austin got injured, after he had injured Austin🤔 I thought about that, but didn't Owen then roll him up? Not great for someone with a neck injury, although I'm sure it was just thoughtless, not malicious. Austin rolled up Owen, who didn't do anything more to Austin after the piledriver.

Austin rolled up Owen, who didn't do anything more to Austin after the piledriver. Which is insane because him moving could have done even more damage to his body

Not quite what you’re talking about. I think it was michaels vs Trips and a developmentally disabled fan walked into the action. And they were both aware enough to protect the kid while still keep the match going and waiting for someone to get the kid out of there.

I genuinely don't get why that match even happened between someone with 3 herniated discs and someone who's finisher is a DDT

Obviously it's great that it worked but I don't think Perfect really "saved" Jericho on purpose in that incident. He was gonna put the knees up anyway and he just fluked into saving him after he messed up the lionsault. Just amazing good fortune rather than a reaction to something going wrong. Not quite what you’re talking about. I think it was michaels vs Trips and a developmentally disabled fan walked into the action. And they were both aware enough to protect the kid while still keep the match going and waiting for someone to get the kid out of there. I think that was HBK vs Austin at KOTR 97.

Team Hell No vs The Rhodes Scholars. Cody got a concussion mid way through the match and Sandow refused to tag Cody back into the match and basically wrestled the match himself.
