Since then, IMO the goal for Roman with WWE has been just to put him in big time matches. That was their goal with Undertaker at 33 I feel. I say this because I’m still hearing in some fan corners that Reigns still needs to be “coronated as the man.” And I don’t know if that’s the case anymore, mostly because I feel the company at least by 2016 has made it clear he is their top male star.

Outside of the negative reactions, I think his lack of a long title reign (no pun intended) and maybe the runs of Styles, Kofi, Brock and Seth with their championships while Roman is chasing has made it less obvious, but IMO he is their male ace when it comes to marketing.

We can question the effectiveness of the push, but if Roman is in a WM36 title match, I think WWE’s priority now is just to use him well as a top main eventer because that’s what he is in 2020.

I think they should just put the title on him at WM, whether he wins it off Goldberg or The Fiend, and have him hold it until SummerSlam. I don't really remember him having a proper run with the title before and it's not like he actually lost it. The important thing is that they just keep his character the way it is now because as terrible as the Corbin feud is, this is the best he's ever been on his own.

Roman's status right now needs to be establishing the next big star after him. He needs to stay out of the main event permanently and focus on helping those under him. He's best as that lead figure helping others rather than being the lead who others help stay the lead.

Basically, he needs to be Lil Wayne circa 2009-2013 as he helped establish Young Money, Drake and Nicki.

Yeah, it feels as if they’ve allowed him more freedom in how he presents himself, and it’s showing lately.

WWE already wasted a tragic Wrestlemania on that moment (WM32 in Texas where there were lots of injuries). Perhaps they want to forget it even existed by having a redux of the same-ol.

WrestleMania should offer something new. They could put on a show similar to Wrestle Kingdom if they wanted in what's supposed to be the Super Bowl of wrestling, and they don't.

When it comes to 'coronations', I feel like it has less to do with giving him another title or another trophy for his wall, and more to do with having that one big moment where the live audience finally realizes "Holy shit, Roman Reigns is the greatest! How have I not noticed before!?" and then they all cheer him on to victory and then give him a great big 'You deserve it' chant when he wins (not when he gets left beaten and bloodied like the other times they chanted it).

Unfortunately, that's only happened once: when he beat Sheamus for the title on a random episode of Raw. And even then, the good will only lasted a couple weeks before everyone was back to hating him at the 2016 Royal Rumble because Vince and creative went way too hard on the whole 'One vs All, Roman can't POSSIBLY win' scenario and turned everyone off of him again. Or maybe it's because he was still cutting terrible, cringe-inducing promos at the time...

Every other 'coronation' they've held for him has been met with vitriol and/or apathy, so the company decides "Well, I guess we'll just move him to the midcard for a few months and then try again at Summerslam, and if that one doesn't take we'll try again at next years's Wrestlemania; the fans are sure to love him by then!"

Except they never do. And even after coming back from cancer and spending an entire year doing nothing of real importance in the midcard, I'd be willing to bet money that the vitriol and apathy will return the moment he steps back into the World Title picture (Assuming they haven't already returned, I have no idea how the crowds are reacting to him since I haven't been watching), which means that whether he's facing The Fiend or Goldberg, it's still likely to be another failed coronation heralded by a chorus of boos.

When people say "coronation" about the possibility of Roman winning a 'Mania match, and almost always just him, I wonder what exactly their expectation is, especially since Roman really hasn't been treated like this big superhero in a while now.

At a certain point, it just feels obsessive.

One problem is that he hasn't won a particularly good WM main event. The first Lesnar match was solid but they did the Rollins deal. The HHH match was a total snooze, typical of HHH not reading the room properly at 11:00 at night and going out and doing a slow paced "Let's work the arm!" match. Then there was the Taker match, which was sad. Then the 2nd Lesnar match, which the crowd took a dump on and he also jobbed clean. So he's either lost or beaten an old guy in a bad match. Now he's looking at potentially beating another old guy in a crappy match (Goldberg) or beating a current guy at least in what will likely also be a crap match (Fiend).

That's probably fair to say. Maybe he's just one of those guys who are better off as a supporting act who can step into a main event program from time to time instead of having the focus of the show being around him all the time. Nothing wrong with that.

The way they've booked him has always been super f***ing weird. Like they wanted him as the top guy, but also weren't sure at the same time. I always think back to Elimination Chamber 2018 when he won it and yet he got laid out by Braun after the match anyway.

I know you exaggerated the 30 moments but he still got 16 chances to be "the guy" and no one cares about any of them.
