Becky won at Mania, they've been mentioning Ronda a lot, and Ronda makes these comments?
Yeah, it's a work to build heat for Becky vs Ronda.

I will always feel bad for Ronda for the Charlotte angle. She gave her body to that angle, Charlotte laid in those cane shots something fierce because Ronda told her to swing for the fences and she got greeted with “You deserve it!!”. That was brutal, I just sat there in slack jawed shock watching Ronda’s body just swell up with welts while the fans shit all over her. It was rough

Yeah I concede you have a point, I was just trying to make the point that other forms of entertainment definitely aren’t above carny bullshit either but didn’t pick a great example. Oh no, there are examples and I can buy that, it just always feel like a unique push and pull with wrestling where WWE feels annoyed to just be doing anything for fans because not everyone’s 100% invested in it so they blame them for it. I think a lot of that stems from WWE wrestlers having little to no social media training. I bet there are plenty of other public figures who privately hold their fanbases in contempt too but are smart enough to never publicly admit it.

I think it is mostly a work with some real life elements to it. She probably believes some of the stuff she is saying. I don't think she minds playing the heel.

I'd say this is a work but this is also the same woman who apparently contemplated suicide after her first UFC loss so who knows.

Wrestling fans calling anyone thin skinned is... where's that Spiderman meme? Hypocrisy of fans or not, you'd have to be willfully obtuse not to see that Ronda doesn't handle adversity well just by viewing the way she's reacted to it publicly after any setback. And I'm mostly a Ronda fan.

*acts like the thin-skinned dweeb they've always been*
*gets the reaction they should have expected*
*claims they're just "working the marks" to deflect from legit criticism*
yup, sounds like the same old Ronda to me.

I'm sure there was some footage of her on her youtube or something where she was laughing and joking about how much she loves heeling it up. I think she knows what she's doing. This. She is playing it up and obviously planning on returning as a heel. Granted, she should leave the whole "This shit is fake ya'll" parts out. Nobody wants to hear that shit in a storyline.

Honestly, I agree that she got a lot of undeserved shit from the fans for someone who really could have coasted but instead really busted her ass. HOWEVER, as others have said that’s just how it goes in wrestling sometimes. Sometimes the fans are just gonna turn on you and you gotta be able to roll with it.

Calling fans dumb losers is fine. Things like "Rebecca Quin I'm gonna kick your ass for REAL and not in a fake wrestling match!" is awful. Worked shooting does work on some people but it's so f***ing lazy and you need to strike the balance.

Its a tough balance but Becky is also the worst person to feud with if you're trying to avoid that because of how she blurs the lines in her insults a lot of the time, attacking things like promos and 'charisma', acting in kayfabe in press interviews and throwing in smark language. Its worth remembering that one of the most famous Ronda dives into breaking kayfabe came after she got a semi-kayfabe dig in after they put out that Becky 'mugshot' t-shirt and Becky then accused her of disrespecting the business. And then it led to accusations of phallic envy and photoshops of Ronda's husband cause that's how weird and off-the-rails the Mania 35 build was.

I don't know that I'd agree. Like, yeah, if you're a heel and you're in character (especially at a live show, where it's very clear you're in character, shouting at the audience as you enter), that's a proven way to get heat, it works, it's effective, whatever. But the problem is when you start doing that in other contexts, like on Twitter, where there's a lot of ambiguity about whether you're still just heeling it up or whether you're just being shitty to fans of the product because you genuinely think they suck, it gets a bit less obvious.
This is moreso a problem when several staff and contractors strongly associated with WWE have a habit of expressing what appear to be genuine and sometimes quite sweeping negative opinions about fans (sometimes justified, sometimes very much not). The company also has a habit of having people act really petty on its behalf because Vince is having a bad day and wants to have someone verbally flay the fans who won't let him feed them crap. It's not a good look to be lambasting your paying customers for showing up and paying attention to what you're selling, so if it's unclear whether something is heel work or a shoot bitchfest outburst, maybe consider how it looks to people who assume the latter.
As a wrestler you can feel all superior about having "worked the fans", sure, by all means, that's your prerogative, but don't start getting arsey when people stop bothering to watch because they're sick of wrestlers and wrestling companies treating them like shit.

That is the part that has always left me so confused. Ronda constantly talks about how much she respects wrestling and in this interview puts over the girls in the locker room, yet she has constantly calls wrestling fake, even not when she's being a heel she's done it. That is a very disrespectful thing to do. Roddy Piper would be pissed if he heard her calling it that. She keeps talking about how much she respects wrestling and wrestlers, yet insists on using disrespectful language to describe it.

Yeah it's a problem if they don't even watch but I think blurring the lines of real and fake is the whole point of this shooty nonsense. Like they want people to go "whoa she's an asshole for real! I hope she loses!" Some people fell for it for real last year and were genuinely questioning whether she was gonna attack Becky "for real" and Charlotte was put in the Mania match to protect her haha.

Fighter/wrestler with infamously thin skin continues to have thin skin. Maybe it's a work, but this is who she really is, too.

It’s a work, bro. That's my point though. Any wrestler can just pass off a poorly received hot-take as claiming to be a work. And if the work just makes people not want to see you, then it's not a very effective one
