WHY is Fyter Fest even happening? The 1st one happened because:
A. cross-promotion with a fighting game tournament B. a means of having events until Dynamite started C. an elaborate in-joke at a different event that's long old news.
Not of that matters now, so what's even the point?

I imagine they want an annual destination show between PPVs similar to Bash at the Beach and are sticking with Fyter Fest since fans are already familiar with the name.

I believe they did want continued association with CEO and said they would likely do it again but not with all the jokes, no idea if they'd keep the name just because it works or not. But like with most anything else, physical fighting game tournaments have all been cancelled, delayed, or moved online. CEO 2020 is pushed back to a very hopeful December date right now, and if anything is going to happen this year it'd then likely fall onto that date, but even then I see them maybe holding out until next year. It's not by any means a tentpole show they absolutely need to do every year, and even though it got several fighting game fans I know deep into wrestling, they're hooked now.

It's also a continuation of the NJPWxCEO shows that ran before AEW existed. Alex Jebailey is a huge wrestling fan, something of a trained wrestler himself, and has friendships with a number of wrestlers including Xavier Woods and Kenny Omega (who was involved with making both NJPWxCEO and Fyter Fest happen).
Now, we'll see if Fyter Fest is delayed until CEO 2020 happens. Or maybe Kenny uses his "in" with Capcom to try and get a collaboration with EVO Online instead, doing something else with CEO in December or whenever they plan on holding their next event. Though I'm surprised CEO hasn't embraced the virtual con/tournament option yet.

Maybe it's when they premiere their video game? Or at least preview it? That's a pretty good reason to throw a rasslin' show.

They can do that with a different not outdated name.

I think the Fyter Fest name is great on its own, but I'd get a new logo so they are no longer chained to the Fyre Festival joke.

Cage will be injured when the whole Fyter Fest happens, replacement will be Nick Jackson cosplaying Johnny Cage.

Since FyterFest is tied to CEO, I have a question to those more familiar with the FGC than me. What are the odds they take EVO's lead and transition CEO into a digital event? And if they do, will AEW still run the show on the same weekend?

Since next Dynamite will be June 3rd already and no date announced. I'm guessing they go June 27th or July 11th and it will end up being special on HBO Max.

They should just call it Fighter Fest and give it a new logo.
