Everything was booked so well until one selfish man who didn't need another win decided he'd rather tank seven guys to put himself over.

One of the best debuts ever.
Shame it was so snake bit. Bryan getting fired, Michael Tarver unfortunately sucking at just about everything outside of "look cool in a mask", Otunga being green as all hell, and Barrett having a really shitty finisher, along with Cena getting cold feet on putting them over all the way, tanked them.

I'd say Otunga didn't even do well at looking cool in a mask... I thought most of the time he looked comical. Barrett was also not particularly good in the ring at all during this time, again most of the Nexus as a main event group lasted well after SummerSlam... Barrett having absolutely awful matches with anyone that wasn't Cena is what put the bullet in it finally.

I happened to come across the Cena/Punk match while channel surfing and decided to watch a bit of it. Then this happened. That's what hooked me into watching WWE regularly again for the first time since 2002, and I started lurking here to get caught up on all the current wrestlers and storylines.

I remember getting really bored of that particular Raw, and was playing Plants vs. Zombies on my cellphone during the Cena vs Punk match. Then I look up and I see Michael Tarver jumping the barricade wearing his facemask and armband, and after the double-take, I knew shit was about to go down.
Also, the fact that they tore up the ring and barricades was such a strong visual, because you never saw them pull down the metaphorical curtains, especially in the HD era. As far as I'm aware, it's the first time we ever saw the plywood of the ring exposed in a WWE ring. It looked as if a tornado touched down in the arena.

On the other hand, Bryan’s firing being kayfabed as being kicked out of the Nexus due to “showing remorse” was beneficial for him in the long run.

Amazing debut. In the end they weren’t ready for the spot though, that’s why I’m not even really all that mad at how it all played out.

And if it wasn't for the last 10 minutes, this show would be remembered as one of the worst episodes of televised wrestling ever.

As effective as that debut is, it is kinda funny that the last image is a Cena giving the thumbs up from his stretcher like he’s the injured star player in The Mighty Ducks/Champions.

It was a cool debut but, much like the Awesome Truth thread, it just fell apart if you thought about it. The entire promotion is on high alert over the threat of...a group of rookies that aren't that skilled or threatening.

In a sense, you can say that Daniel Bryan getting fired and the Nexus not working out put him on the path he ended up going down. Maybe he would have gotten there eventually, but I think the chain of events and even end result would have looked different.

Meh. Never shyed away from the fact that Nexus was not my thing. Maybe cause I didn't watch much NXT at the time and just saw a bunch of guys I didn't have the desire to see dominating Raw for months. Only good thing that came out of everything to me was Bryan coming back and feuding with Miz.

Said Raw was guest-hosted by the cast of the A-Team movie (and a clearly out of f***s given Bradley Cooper) and was rather bad until the Nexus stormed the ringside area.

It turns out Tarver was way ahead of his time by wearing that mask.
