But Austin did get in the ring during tough enough and ran the ropes and took bumps and then had a short match with the cocky little shit in the competition(my head says his name was luke) and he looked like he'd never been away. I realise that it's not the same but he wasn't unable to bump is my point.

In a weird way, I honestly think the neck injury and the walkout saved Steve Austin's life.
The dude was tunnel-visoned as hell regarding himself and wrestling, and there's a good chance he wouldn't be alive today if those things hadn't slowed him down and made him leave the business.
One of the more terrifying stories I've ever heard was Prichard talking about Austin drinking so much coffee and the like and being so amped up that they thought he might be having a heart attack or something.
That's why I don't care if he ever steps foot in the ring again or not; I think he feels wrestling is an addiction that he had to break, and he doesn't want to get caught up in it again.

Was that the night before wrestlemania 19 his heart started racing and according to Austin it was touch and go for mania. I think Austin should be an example to others who aren't medically disqualified(although with edge and DB coming back it's not as permanent) on how to adjust to not being in a ring. He seems to have found the balance. He seems in a good place in life which is great. He seems happy which as a wrestling fan for years is all I want those I watched.

Still not the same as wrestling full time though. It’s possible with some re-training to fight off the ring rust, he can have a passable match now, though it’s better that he dosen’t.

He's always going to be Stone Cold Steve Austin, and the fans will always love him. Showing up once in a blue moon to hit somebody with a stunner is a good way to get that adrenaline rush that wrestlers say can only come from being in the ring but without the risk of major injury.
