Honestly if AEW manages to get her and you know
USE her, it has the potential to bring new viewers. There is no one like Maki Itoh in AEW and she could easily take at very least Number 2 spot as the most over in the division,

Right before Punk cried for real at the entrance, we saw Maki cry for real when she won the princess cup. Her tweet said "summer memories". Which we could easily interpret as summer of Maki.
......I don't know exactly where I'm going with this. I just want Maki to be seen as main event.

I literally watched Maki's match yesterday. The idea of her being the drizzling shits is f***ing ludicrous. She isn't hugely impressive when up against at least six of the best joshi in the world, sure, but come the f*** on.

Maki is certainly serviceable (if sometimes slow and with near-botches) when she's up against joshi with whose style she is familiar and who are very, very good. What I think people have an odd amount of faith in is that that translates to necessarily having a good match (and not actually botching) against people who are less good, whose style she is less familiar with, and where there will be a degree of language barrier.
If she has a run in AEW, she's not going to be wrestling just the Hikaru Shidas, but also the Penelope Fords, the Jade Cargills, and even the Sea Stars of the world.

Is this not true of half of their women's roster? Loads of them are green. Why is Maki a worse choice than anyone else?

I feel for like of Maki's limitations, matching up with someone green/inexperienced/limited isn't really at the top of my concerns since she does that quite regularly just fine.

But I think if you want her to be a main event star in AEW - which many people here do - it's worth considering whether she can actually have good matches against a wide variety of people and not just really good joshi (or Serena Deeb). Maybe she'll rise to the occasion! I just don't take it as an article of faith that she will. Maki has value either way, her charisma and intangibles make her an asset. But if it turns out she's completely out of her depth trying to carry a match with a lesser worker, then AEW should avoid putting her in that situation.

While some long term work on stuff like AEW Dark would be fine, I'd honestly love to see her on loan to Impact for a while. Not only could she get better working with some genuinely good talent, but she'd also essentially get experience in American TV wrestling, where she could afford to make mistakes that wouldn't necessarily affect her standing too badly when she went back to AEW.
Plus, Impact is down for all sorts of out there stuff Itoh could dive into.

I am completely with you that dropping her in a main event makes no sense

Itoh's been improving wrestling wise this past year too. If she comes to AEW and defends this belt, it will definitely get a lot of interest

Oh yeah, I forgot Thunder Rosa beat her for the belt the first time and had to vacate it due to COVID restrictions. I get why Maki Itoh would want a round 2, then. Incidentally, Maki Itoh is the first, and currently only, 2-time International Princess champion. Glad for her, seriously.

More imporantly this means the Maki/Suzuki team can come to AEW!
I know we'll all be sick of tournaments soon but a mixed tag late in the year could be amazing.
Maki/Suzuki Cody/Brandi Britt/Cole OC/Statlander Kingtson/Lulu Pencil Bunny/Blade Miro/Lana and er... let's randomly say Hook/Leyla Hirsch
Well there's plenty of time to get the last team established.
