A slight cheat, since the toy never made it to production. But it was pretty par for the course for a lot G1 toy accuracy. Thankfully, it got better:

Man, f*** that toy back in the day. THAT ISN’T BLACK Guessing they went translucent to represent how Batman on Batman Beyond had limited ability to turn invisible.

Who are some characters in toy-based shows who dont resemble their toy designs? I'll get the obvious ones out of the way first, G1 Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jetfire from the Transformers (Reflector too, come to think of it). See, I thought Skyfire looked just enough like Jetfire. Different robot face and some tweaks to both his modes, but still recognizable. (actually going by faces alone, a LOT of the original G1 Transformers count here) Can we count the Rumble/Frenzy argument as an example? Rumble is Red, Frenzy is Blue. This Statement is both false and true.

Thankfully, it got better: Even that one is kind of shit giving the price tag and the fact there a much better third party one for half the price then what Hasbro is asking for.

You save a lot of money when you don't need to pay for the upkeep of a brand or subject what you produce to stringent safety testing.

I'll say. Rumble was purple.

I'll get the obvious ones out of the way first, G1 Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jetfire from the Transformers (Reflector too, come to think of it). G1 Galvatron's toy too, but they did try to rectify that in later re-releases. The purple cartoon accurate one was made like 25 years later for collectors. It's not like they tried to fix it while the show was still airing.

Yeah but there's a lot of Transformers collectors that only want the official products, not the third party shit even if it looks cooler.

A lot of MotU toys... they flat out recently released Classic Toys designed to look more like their cartoon counterparts. In the case of Man At Arms, his cartoon look was an improvement over this scowling thing. He would be great as a heel applying figure fours with that thing on his leg. And on that note, the Attak Trak looked completely different in animation.

Russ Cargill in The Simpsons Movie: Russ Cargill Burger King toy: Was that done as an homage to the early Simpsons toys that looked nothing like the characters did on the show?

Russ Cargill in The Simpsons Movie: Russ Cargill Burger King toy: Was that done as an homage to the early Simpsons toys that looked nothing like the characters did on the show? No. The Simpsons and Burger King had a deal for the toys. They got made. Then the Simpsons completely changed Cargill. The Simpsons Movie was being changed literally until the last possible second.

Yeah, this just striked me as the toys were based on earlier design... which the Simpsons especially is known for see blue shirt Bart.
