Please tell me they really tried to make a legit storyline setup for this and that it was that Batista sent zombies to attack Miz and Morrison.

I'm still amazed that there are people who still think this shit is pro wrestling. They've been telling us for years that what they do is not pro wrestling. And they are absolutely right. If I ever get to the point where I’m this much of a snob about PRO FREAKIN’ WRESTLING, someone please hit me over the head with a brick.

I mean they haven't? I don't think WWE ever mentioned WCW's Robocop. They did on their awful MST3K ripoff. Ok so once on a youtube show that like no one remembers... >_> That said... I'll say it... these two are not comparable... the zombies were not advertised to be there... Robocop was a major part of the promotion for the show... not only that it Robocop was poorly done. despite being part of the main event storyline he shows up in the middle of the show and doesn't really do anything... even with all the things they weren't allowed to do with him... El Gigante comes out during the main event and stands around... that could have easily been where Robocop shows up.

I didn't watch the show, but I'll take goofy shit like this. I'll especially take it over stuff like Seth vs Cesaro continuing.

If they hadn't spent decades being like LOLWCW 4 ROBOCOP! THEY THE WORST, then I wouldn't see an issue. Like Mothman said, who cares, have fun. Have voodoo queens controlling MMA fighter's leg, and zombies eating Johnny "Drip" after he parkcoured a few of them, it's all good. But please don't act like you're somehow above what WCW or TNA have done of their dumbest days in promotion. Please stop being LOLTNA and talking about what WCW did to go out of business, and embrace the tomfoolery. This is basically it. Do the silly stuff and make it entertaining, but don't thumb your nose at something like Blood and Guts and say it "Set the business back 30 years", you're putting ZOMBIES on a PPV guys, stop acting like you're above this shit or don't do crazy stuff. Wrestling is stupid crazy fun and has a very wide pool of how crazy stupid and fun it can get. Don't act like any company is setting the business back when you not only do the same shit but have a world wrapping laundry list of ways that could be turned around on you too... including tonight.

I hate to be that guy but AEW did a movie tie in with Godzilla vs Kong. They did it by doing a tag match with a dinosaur character and used the motif and they plugged it a ton during the match. But they went in and had a regular match. They didn't dress up as gorillas or have people dress up and scare the wrestlers. This wasn't necessary to do the movie tie in. Priest deserves better than this. Yeah, I don't hate this quite as much as some did, but this zombie thing did not remotely fit in thematically with the WWE product, and that's even considering how erratic WWE can be in that respect. Whereas the AEW King Kong vs. Godzilla movie tie in just used existing characters that are a bit wacky, but still grounded in some semblance of reality that didn't clash with the rest of the product. This is also why RoboCop's WCW tenure is widely panned, regardless of how much promotional material he was on. Now if Kaiju Big Battel or Camp Leapfrog had a match interrupted by a zombie outbreak, it could have worked because those products are where supernatural stuff like witches with force lighting or giant monsters destroying the host city of the show is the sort of thing that happens regularly on their shows.

Personally I like my goofy stuff in wrestling so it doesn’t bother me
Having said that, I own the top 50 moments in WCW history Blu-ray and half of that is WWE dragging WCW for stuff like Chucky etc. and that combined with the “AEW set the business back 30 years comments” just reminds me of the sheer hypocrisy of WWE

So let me understand this;
WWE were willing to do a tie in with a movie that is on a competitor to the streaming service it’s airing on with a FORMER WWE superstar…
But when your present superstar, and champion appears on a big TV show on another competitor…radio silence.
Sure, that makes sense.

WWE is presented as a TV show. A fictional, week to week narrative that we're supposed to care about. I don't want things on the show that absolutely shatter that narrative. That's all. I want the shows internal logic to be consistent. I got no beef with zombies. Lucha Underground is my favorite wrestling thing of all time, and that had TONS of zombies. But that's because it made sense in their universe. How does no one care about the literal army of undead backstage?
This is just like the AJ/Daniel Bryan in Vince's office thing from a while ago. A thing that was funny in the moment, and everybody who complains about it gets called snobs for it, but something that does long term harm to the ability of people to take either the talent or the fiction of the show seriously. Then down the line people end up acknowledging there are way less fans and no one feels like stars. Too much short term comedy is allowed to wreck the long term vibe of the show.

How did this become an AEW thing? Because everything is now. Just join in, more fun. Also, I loved the zombies. It was harmless fun for a rubbish stipulation match. It also comes to something when I'd rather see zombies out there as lumberjacks than Tuckers and Drew Gulack
