Still shocked Warner made no play at it. I am trying to figure out what they have from the time they bought the MGM library.
Pre-1985 movies, and I guess TV series too? Popeye cartoons came from this because United Artists distributed them.
But as I understand it...they DON'T have the Bond movies because they sold UA BACK in 1986 or so.

50 year from now there will only be five companies: Amazon, Disney, Google, Apple, and Impact Wrestling. and despite multiple attempts at being bought by the others, somehow impact wrestling is the last one standing Of course, Disney buys the other three before this.

I think the reason nobody else went for it, looking from the article anyway, is because their debt was substantially big to the value it had so it felt much more of a risk then, say, Disney buying Marvel or Microsoft buying Bethesda was.
Like, MGM's made films that have turned a profit but if it's all being funnelled into a hole, it's almost pointless to try and pick it up without substantial capital to make up the difference.
EDIT: And I'd also be bold and say that if it wasn't for AT&T screwing things up with Time Warner, they'd likely be first in line to buy it by now.

This is beneficial to Amazon because they get a rich collection to add to their library for Prime Video. It also gives them a legit established Hollywood studio in their portfolio. They overpaid for nearly twice its value, but Jeff Bezos also has "f*** you" money so I doubt he cares.
And there's a rumored personal interest Bezos has in footage MGM owns the rights to, but we can't talk about that here.

Another possible advantage.
Buzzr has an Amazon Prime channel.
MGM owns whatever of the Heatter-Quigley game shows are still out there.
Could we see access to old High Rollers, Gambit, and classic Hollywood Squares?

AT&T must be kicking themselves for not buying MGM Studios. Rocky and James Bond would have been great fits for HBO Max.

And the company made so many cuts itself, I doubt that a merger like that would have gone well at all. The last thing that disaster needed was another disaster on top of it.

Amazon Prime already has my favorite consistent vault of movies in one place, so this only improves that and by quite a bit too. Though for being free tubi can be pretty awesome.

By owning MGM I'd like to see Amazon do a RoboCop series with the quality of something like The Boys or Invincible

Funny that they couldn't afford to give their employees hazard pay but they can find billions to buy MGM.
