On one hand, him retiring is gonna help other programs win, but on the other hand he's the GOAT. The sport is losing the GOAT. He began with Bama in disarray, and didn't do so hot at the beginning, but turned it around massively and quickly and maintained that success. Every time you thought that the game passed him by, he evolved he didn't just do nothing. Mobile QBs gave his defense fits, so his response was to change how his team played the following season. He took every single opponent seriously, didn't want to give them bulletin board material, and didn't want his team to get overconfident. Even against small FCS schools.
College football loses it's biggest villain, but he was a villain because he did it better than anybody else. A villain because he won, stark contrast to somebody like an Urban Meyer.

Not be lost in the last 24 hours of insanity, but Ohio State is returning the following players, all for their senior season:
*All-Big Ten cornerback Denzel Burke *All-Big Ten offensive lineman Donovan Jackson *All-Big Ten cornerback Jordan Hancock *Potential first-round pick in the upcoming draft WR Emeka Egbuka *DE Jack Sawyer *DT Tyleik Williams
So...this was not expected at all for OSU. Most guys with any sort of notoriety head for the NFL as soon as can with Ohio State.
I'm thinking that seeing Michigan with the Natty lit a fire something fierce in Columbus lol.
Also, its probably never going to happen, but Marvin Harrison Jr. and Treyvon Henderson have declared for the draft yet either...

Maybe…but Ryan Day still sucks out loud so it probably won’t matter when it counts.

Should have a very big year if Henderson declares.

It's looking like Kalen DeBoer will be leaving Washington to take the Bama job.

I wonder if a guy like Jonathan Smith is a little bummed he jumped at the Michigan St. job? He might've been a fit at Washington.

I think Saban is less of a villian (maybe outside the SEC) than Urban Meyer. Maybe I'm wrong and that's just my opinion.

Man, DeBoer had a great year but I don't know if he's a slam dunk at Bama. That's an interesting hire.

Saban generally seems like a decent person who is only the villain for winning all the time. Urban Meyer is a legit scumbag.
DeBoer also just going to Washington so suddenly is also why I have no problems with student athletes taking advantage of the transfer portal.

Man, do I wish coaches just stayed at their job when they have a good one. DeBoer was already coaching a power 5 school that was just in the National Championship and is moving to an even bigger power 5 conference next season. What more did he want? Couldn’t be money because he refused the raise in pay that Washington was offering him to stay.

Couldn’t be money because he refused the raise in pay that Washington was offering him to stay. Bama's still a bigger program than Washington with better facilities. But the big thing is indeed money. He gonna make so much in endorsement and appearance deals. Washington for as big as they are, don't have the deep pockets that Bama does. Oregon's got the Nike money, so they could match any offer Bama gave Dan Lanning. Saban's also still gonna have an office there, so he could give pointers. But that is a bad situation to step into, you're replacing the GOAT. The first sign of a struggle, Bama fans are gonna want blood. And that's especially true with Georgia becoming the top program in college football under Kirby Smart (who coached under Saban for almost a decade).

Dude could go undefeated and lose in the playoff and Bama fans will start crying for blood.
But the dumptruck full of gold bars will make it worth it.

If the 12-team playoff were implemented in 2023, the tournament would have been:
1. Michigan, 2. Washington, 3. Texas, 4. Alabama - byes 5. Florida State vs. 12. Oklahoma 6. Georgia vs. 11. Ole Miss 7. Ohio State vs. 10. Penn State 8. Oregon vs. 9. Missouri
In 2024, that would translate to six teams from the SEC, five from the Big Ten, and one team from the ACC.
