Man, I hated those house show title changes with no video footage (Jannetty, LOD, Kid/Jannetty). For a business supposedly all about "heat," they couldn't have been more anti-climactic. "Oh, by the way, over the weekend, so-and-so became the champ. We have no video, so just use your imagination." Same. I think most of the title changes involving Money Inc. happened that way. -They won the titles in Feb 1993 from LOD at a house show and when it was announced they didn’t even have still photos. Just Mean Gene telling you what happened on an Update segment -They lost the titles in July 1992 to the Natural Disasters at a TV taping. The match was recorded, but never aired and randomly appeared a Coliseum Video a year and a half later -After winning the titles back from the Disasters in October 1992 on Wrestling Challenge, they finally lose them in June 1993 to the Steiners at a house show. Then they won them back and then immediately lost them back to the Steiners. This whole sequence was announced at once on Superstars without any footage of any of the matches. The Tag Titles as a whole got really weird. After the LOD beat the Nasty Boys at Summerslam 91, the titles don’t change hands on PPV again until the 1-2-3 Kid and Bob Holly won the Tag Team Title tournament finals at Royal Rumble 1995. Nine of the 13 title changes took place at house shows! The fact that the Steiners, who were basically the only thing keeping the tag division from crumbling into dust in the first half of 1993, won the titles twice without either match airing on TV is INSANE. Even weirder: When they won them the first time, it was at a Wrestling Challenge taping, but in a dark match. What possible reason was there for not showing that on TV?

To get fans to come out to house shows by rattling the cage and showing that, yes, important things can happen. Gorilla spells this out on Update--the next WWF title change could take place in YOUR town!

He didn't lose it. He sold it to a girl he saw on Instagram that he says is his girlfriend even though she has no idea who he is. Fixed for modern accuracy.

They should have let Janetty have a good run as Intercontinental Champion . There was lots of bad gimmick scrubs to squash. But they didn’t trust him.

Mr. Perfect's interference is what caused Shawn to lose the belt to Jannetty. Looking back, it's a little clearer that Jannetty himself wasn't really the focal point and that Shawn would get his belt back somehow. I just don't think anybody expected it would happen so soon, and on an untelevised show. Man, I hated those house show title changes with no video footage (Jannetty, LOD, Kid/Jannetty). For a business supposedly all about "heat," they couldn't have been more anti-climactic. "Oh, by the way, over the weekend, so-and-so became the champ. We have no video, so just use your imagination." Business was really slipping then and I think this was a way to try and get more people out to house show, where you may really see a legitimate title change that sticks the next time you tune into WWF programming

I remember this one fondly. Frankly it was just cool to see Jannetty again. After the Barber Shop incident, he was pretty much erased and forgotten. To come back, get revenge on Michaels, and win the strap...seemed like the ultimate revenge for someone who'd been wronged.
And during all those years as the Rockers...I think most everyone saw that when the time was right Michaels would be the one getting elevated (same with the Hart Foundation and Bret) while Jannetty was pretty much destined to stay roughly where he was. To see Jannetty (who we all assumed was stamped out and erased) topple Michaels was pretty satisfying.

Because he's Marty Janetty. Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct one.
