I think Renner is likeable enough, but they really screwed things up saddling Hawkeye with a family and pigeonholing him into the "I just wanna retire but I keep getting dragged back in" role. Saddling movie Hawkeye as Ultimates Hawkeye really robs them of a lot of what makes Hawkeye interesting. His circus past, his criminal brother, his relationship with Mockingbird, his role as the team firebrand. Replacing all of that with workmanlike Shield agent just is less fun. In all fairness, when he debuted in the MCU it was still transitioning from being kinda grounded in reality with Iron Man toe being more of a straight up onscreen comic universe. Making him a Shield agent made it easier to explain an archer hanging out with Captain America and The Hulk too. Also, they've never said he WASN'T in the circus before he was a Shield agent, they've never stated that he's an only child so his brother could be out there (Swordsman if I remember correctly?), and they never said he and Mockingbird didn't have a relationship before he was with his wife. They seem to be trying to make him more like comic Hawkeye, so this stuff could still be story potential.

I think they've always poorly handled Hawkeye in these things. Pretty much every movie he's been in he just felt like some unintroduced character waltzing in and getting screentime for no reason and the one time he did get any actual focus it was the shitty farm scene in Age of Ultron that grinded the movie to a screeching halt. It feels like you're supposed to care about him because he's a hero, no other reason or establishment of a personality given.
Not necessarily a problem with the show though, pretty much had the same opinion of Scarlet Witch and Vision and WandaVision did a lot to address that.

So does anybody know if Linda Cardellini is gonna show up in this? She better She's featured briefly in the trailer and IMDb credits her in all eight episodes, though how big a role she has is anybody's guess.

Nothing new. I believe Jim Starlin claimed he got paid more for Warner Brothers using the civilian name of KGBeast in BvS than Disney paid him for Thanos and the Infinity saga.

Initially Swordsman was the one who trained him. Later they thought they needed to add a new character to have trained him as Swordsman wasnt an archer. Why they couldnt say Swordsman was an archer as well and just didnt like using a bow much I dont know. But they retconned in Trickshot who trained Hawkeye in archery. I guess it served the purpose of giving Hawkeye a larger rogues gallery.
