In Kaiju Big Battel it was canon that the refs were hit with a growth ray to stand with the titanic Kaiju Big Battelers, just saying WWE.

I think they should go the other way and hire just the absolute biggest people possible. Scout international and minor league basketball games, circuses, etc. Just the biggest f***ing people and like 4 times a match Cole just shouts "look at this giant ref!" Guaranteed ratings. Omos would be perfect because didn't Cole used to shout THISLARGEHUGEMAN! every time he came out?

This is the type of detail they would focus on as opposed to better booking, listening to fans, pushing new talent, updating the presentation, etc. The UFC has a bunch of MMA guys as refs and no one cares. But here's the thing: MMA refs actually have to intervene to the point of having to choke a fighter, so it makes sense that they are big MMA guys. Pro wrestling refs shouldn't be "seen" except during decision making parts (counts and checking on wrestlers when they are in submissions), so it makes sense for them to be short and physically unmemorable... if you want to be making your wrestlers look big (which WWE certainly does. AEW, NJPW and ROH, on the other hand, don't have as much of a problem with that there since the first is more based on a wrestlers charisma and the others on the competition aspect). Also, very suspicious of this coming up so soon after being pointed out on an OSW episode...

Or, hear me out here, hire taller talent? Whatdayameanthatsnotfeasable?
Uh, ok, higher lifts in wrestlers' boots? Dumb and not safe to work in?
Oh, uhm, err... Oh! Oh! Minis as refs! Yeah, that'll do it.

Maybe that's why Danny Davis was nicknamed "Dangerous"
He was 5'10, that's dangerously close to 6 feet!

Omos came in one day a month ago wearing a striped shirt and Vince just lost his shit. You joke but I can totally see that happening seriously.

They sell moves, they attempt to admonish wrestlers that try to break rules, and otherwise appear to be legitimate officials. They literally "try" to get inbetween wrestlers for things like choking in the corner. That doesn't make any sense. How about submissions? If the wrestler doesn't break the hold, the ref would do things like grab at them and plead with them to break. You literally have death match refs in Japan pull at the wrestles' hair or try to get weapons away from them.

Can they mandate they be balding, fat dad (or fat mom!) types too?
Enough of these tan, in-shape refs!

I still remember Rock staring him down when he f***ed up the finish to Rock's match with Angle at No Way Out 2001.

I moderated on a wrestling board for eight years and have been a wrestling fan since the late 80's. That is a phrase that generally applies but doesn't take into account the work referees do to accentuate matches through their reactions. Might as well tell Charles Robinson that he was reffing incorrectly for decades and that Mark Curtis was a bad ref. There are exceptions to every rule. It's better to say, "You shouldn't notice a referee most of the time but when you do, it should be used to put over the match."

Yes, a ref can do that... but they shouldn't be the focal point. You shouldn't be paying attention to them. When those situations happen you should go "oh yeah, there's a ref in this match, almost forgot about that". If you have a ref who's taller or with a better physique than the wrestlers, he's going to stand out from them and you're going to focus on the ref instead of the wrestlers, at least for a considerable amount of time. At least, again, if you want to make your wrestlers seem bigger, which seems to be the key point in this whole debate.

Sure, it's shorter refs today, and then a smaller ring tomorrow.
Pretty soon we'll all have to watch Wrestlemania through a microscope.

WWE is a parody of itself What’s wrong with this? It’s a clever idea, man. Because caring about the size of referees relative to your wrestlers enough to make an edict about who you hire is one of those things that feels like it can only matter to Vince. It sounds like a haha funny clever idea but I don't think they're taking it as haha funny. It's just more of WWE's continued size fixation stuff.

What’s wrong with this? It’s a clever idea, man. Because for years everyone has mocked Vince for being obsessed with big dudes. Now, when the product is being criticised from all sides about poor storylines, mistreatment of talent & shady business dealings, the edict goes out that 'we need to make everyone seem taller! That'll fix it!'
