I'm watching the SB38 highlight show on ESPN......WE WERE SO CLOSE, SO FREAKIN CLOSE! wax YOU TOM BRADY, BELLICHEK AND VINATERI!! No, f*** John Kasay! If that assclown wouldnt have kicked the ball out of bounds, the Pats wouldnt have started their last drive from the 40 yard line and we would have been looking at overtime. And then he got a contract extension, why the hell not. God damn John Kasay, Delhomme and crew worked so hard on that comeback and you kick it away. *cries*

they're showing it here in GER, too, so i might watch. however, can someone tell me how long that thing goes? and is there a quick rule and terminology overview somehwere? the last time i watched a superbowl was yrs ago... Usually about 3-4 hours. Most games are 3 hours, but the SB tends to drift a little long with all the theatrics. As for rules and terms and such, here's the best resource, I'd imagine. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football

Probably the best kicker over that time. He just got unlucky. Vinateri missed two FG's earlier in the game and got redemption at the end. I'd take him over Vinateri or Vanderjact. I don't blame him for losing. I think we shouldn't have gone for two twice earlier in the 4th quarter (failed both times) and plus, it was the Patriots, it's not like they weren't as good as us. And f*** Tom Brady

The other thing is; let's say he kicks it inbounds and it goes into the endzone. Touchback. Or, let's say it goes to the 5 or something and NE returns it. The Pats had Bethel Johnson at the time, but he wasn't necessarily Devin Hester. Either way, they're starting at at least the 20 yard line, but it could be anywhere between the 20 and the 35, realistically. Vinatieri's kick was 41 yards, but in a dome, he could've probably made almost anything under 50 yards (he changed to better spikes during halftime, which was the cause of his miss in the first half).
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I'm not too sure the Pats wouldn't have driven down the extra ten yards anyway. Who knows, it might've been a completely different story. But I'm not sure Kasay was as bad of a goat as people make him out to be.
I think it all just had to do with clock management. The Panthers were able to run all over the Pats' defense, but as a result, all their scores came off quick drives that left too much time for the Pats to come right back and score, particularly on the last drive.
I think, in the Pats' three Super Bowl victories, the only people who can explicitly be blamed for any loss would likely be Donovan McNabb and/or Andy Reid. The last 6 minutes of SB XXXIX were simply mind-boggling in how slowly the Eagles drove down the field. With 5:40 to play, the Eagles needed two scores, but took almost 4 minutes to do so. I'm guessing the whole thing about McNabb being sick was true, so I guess you can blame him, but if he wasn't, you gotta wonder why Reid wasn't running the no-huddle.
