Konnan, had he gone to WWE with the Radicalz, probably would've gotten Disco Inferno in after Vince bought WWE. That alone makes me wish it would've happened (unabashed Disco mark here).

You know he was a huge star in Mexico, right? They didn't call the guy the Mexican Hulk Hogan just because he was bald, juiced up and didn't like to job. I had read that but I don't think the stardom translated to his time with WCW. There were probably lots of the luchadors who were big stars in Mexico and were wildly talented but it didn't necessarily translate to the audience. Maybe injuries had gotten to him time he went to WCW but I didn't see why he would be a star, at least in WCW.

He was beat up by the time he hit WCW and the roster was topheavy when he finally hit his stride in the company. I think you really shouldn't judge the quality of a talent by how well they did in mid to late 90s WCW, Ric Flair began his slide into caricature after 1994, they took Bret Hart, the hottest babyface in wrestling and booked him into oblivion in less than a year, they turned a motivated and red hot Lex Luger into an ageing midcarder, DDP at his hottest was used as pointless busywork for Hulk Hogan and his celebrity friends and so on and so forth.

Konnan was the Wolfpac's Road Dogg with more depth in both his wrestling and his promos. Because WCW wasn't available prior to 1997/1998 I know no time when Konnan wasn't really over. I always thought he's the most important member of the Wolfpac, because he was what set them apart from plain old NWO. Still, I have little memory of his wrestling and following the excellent "Revisiting the War" series by Wrestling Bios I can see why. He looked clumsy often times, like he did not properly adapt to the limitations he developed. He's definately a fascinating guy career-wise.

Konnan should most definitely be in the running for the HoF as one of the biggest stars Mexico ever produced and his role in introducing Lucha libre to the US. He could absolutely have sone value doing content for the network. I could even see a one-shot appearance in NXT ala Jushin Thunder Liger and Mickie James, if he was up to it physically. But he is on such bad terms with WWE there is no way any of it will ever happen.

Konnan was one of the first Latin people to get over in the US, especially WCW, primarily through mic work. And he was really over too, long after the Wolfpac. He absolutely could have been bigger.

He's one guy that I just have never got why he was a big deal.

He was to the Wolfpac what the New Age Outlaws were to DX.
He's also a top tier wrestling legend in Mexico.
I mean damn, that's pretty successful as far as a pro wrestling career goes.

His rapper aesthetic didn't appeal to me but I couldn't deny that he was a start in WCW and held a prominent spot. However, I don't know that he would have risen higher than he was.

I've been watching a lot of 90s Lucha lately, and his body really deteriorated quickly.
'92 Konan would be absolutely massive anywhere and everywhere.
'94 Konnan still very, very, VERY good. Great even.
June '96 Konnan you can still see the quickness, impact and the psychology even if all the flexibility and strength and presence isn't *quite* where it was.
Late '96, perhaps due to the travel schedule and the new WCW lifestyle (purely speculation on my part) or for whatever reason else, you see his speed take a big hit and why it was absolutely necessary for him to become much more character based.
It's not quite Waylon Mercy May '95 vs Waylon Mercy August '95 record for rapid unexpected deterioration, but it's close.
