Tbh I find the idiot ref trope worse. The face who doesn't have backup in their match against the heel with their stable trope annoys me too.

Bullet club booking. It’s beyond old.

then again this is the probable result in a place with so many different factions in it.
elite, dark order, team taz, best friends/chaos, hardy family office, Jurassic express, death triangle, whatever 2.0 and garcia are called, pinnacle, inner circle, dan lambert's crew + men of the year, and britt's crew on the women's side (not even counting the mox/kingston or sting/darby since those are just duos). so there's lots of situations where a match is going to end up in a beatdown or mass melee to give everyone a bit of tv time and because the majority of the factions are heels which is further incentive for them to be doing gang beatdowns on the faces.
this doesn;t happen, outside of the Bloodline, in the wwe because there's not much in the way of factions there.

IMO, the beatdowns wouldn't be so bad if once in a while, the heels got a taste of their own medicine, like that time Christian and Jurassic Express practically murdered the SuperKliq.

Best Friends won the beatdown on Wednesday so The Elite responded on Friday, hits usually back and forth Faces usually win the big matches, heels get their licks in for heat, that's a formula they like

Two beatdowns in an hour, one with an interrupted interview, and both made the faces look like chumps.

Two beatdowns in an hour, one with an interrupted interview, and both made the faces look like chumps. Orange Cassidy's been booked terribly in recent months since Matt Hardy beat him down on Dynamite, and then won the Lumberjack match on Rampage in the same week. After that, he's been constantly beaten down by The Elite in back to back weeks. This feels like what WWE does to someone on their way out of the company.

OC's booking does kind of feel like he pissed someone off. Seemed to be getting positioned for a singles title match after how they went out of their way to screw him over with the Kenny thing then continued to play it up in the immediate aftermath, then he got stuck in a forever feud with Matt that he ultimately wound up losing and now he's getting stomped by the Elite every show. He feels like he's plummeted in relevance.

OC's "mind games" shtick doesn't work at all when he's facing 3 different guys, and that's been demonstrated twice in two shows. Really, really weird how he's been booked. I know the standard defense is that he "doesn't care" but if he doesn't, then why should I?
And yes, the interview interruptions have gotten past the point of absurdity. This is where AEW's total aversion to doing DQs is biting them--anyone who said that DQs are inherently "bad" is an idiot who doesn't know how to book wrestling. You can't have effective referees or rules that matter if there are no consequences, and AEW has none. A DQ can further an angle just as effectively if not moreso than an interview beatdown, and if done right can make you want to see a re-match even more, preferably with a stipulation attached.

He feels like he's plummeted in relevance. I think OC’s momentum got stalled by the signing of Danielson, honestly. Because he was on a pretty clear path after DoN. They had him do the promo telling Kenny it wasn’t over and then gave him a bunch of Dark singles matches and few semi-big wins on Dynamite to build him back up the rankings throughout the summer, quietly putting him back in that top spot. When he was #1 again, Danielson appeared and got the feud with Kenny, the match at Arthur Ashe. I’m pretty convinced that was meant to be OC’s spot and the HFO feud wasn’t supposed to drag as long as it did. The beatdowns are getting repetitive at this point and as great of a seller as OC is, I’m ready for him to do better than this so I have to believe whenever him vs Cole happens he’ll win it. I know I’m bias because OC and Best Friends are my absolute favorites and the main reason I even watch AEW, but to me OC still feels like someone you could slide into the main event at any point. Like no one would be surprised to see him climb back to the top again next year when the rankings reset. His booking this year has been so up and down, but he’s still incredibly popular and relevant. I’ve been to a handful of Dynamites since September (this week’s included) and his pops are still great and he’s still wildly over. I just hope next year they’re a little more consistent with him.

Didnt Cassidy recently beat Hobbs and almost beat Miro with injured ribs to match? Like he's gonna be absolutely fine. Beatdowns aren't anything terrible for Orange and he's experienced and overcome them most every time. I get he lost the Lumberjack match but HFO cheated, and he and Ishii beat Butcher and Blade and basically the entire HFO to win the match and the feud seemingly I know Elite feuds can lead to excessive beatdowns, but Cassidy was beat down a lot in the Inner Circle feud too, worked out fine for him. I don't see his stock as fallen at all, I see them seeing that beating down Orange is a heat getter, and I see him getting one up on The Elite for it soon.
