I figured the reason Cody had the TNT title is to play off the boos he's getting, have him continue being a delusional heel who thinks he's a face, but every challenger who comes up against him is cheered. However, putting this interim belt on Sammy will lend itself to Sammy saying he's been defending the title when he held it, and now he's even defending it after he lost it... so in his mind, Cody was the interim champion while he took some time off.

The Sammy hate here makes me kinda sad, considering how great he is, at least to me. I try not to comment negatively as I feel exactly the same when I see my favourites getting criticism, so sorry!

Sammy is the absolute definition of a 'spot monkey' but he always has the crowd invested in his matches.
Is he good at selling or in ring psychology? No, but its not like he bins it completely when performing.
I usually enjoy his matches a lot, and this one with Dustin was no exception. Great match, and I'm looking more forward to the rematch with Cody than I was before.

Count me in as hating Sammy’s in ring work. There’s never any psychology or selling in his matches. Just one high spot after another until the finish. He’s certainly not alone in that in AEW, lots of guys do it now, but his matches always seem more memorable to me in terms of being ridiculous. MJF hits him with a top rope tombstone and it’s a 2 count followed by business as usual. Now this Dustin match.

I do think Sammy lost steam cause of because of the ATT/MOTY feud becoming about Jericho (also think the internet drama maybe lost him some points in some eyes) but man it's easy to forget how over he had been since the crowd returned until he won the TNT title. Matches after were all good to great, the ATT stuff happened but he just lost so much steam.
Hopefully the interim title goes on for about a month and he gets that momentum back

I like Sammy but he lost me a little after the Rusev match going through that table from the ring to the outside and gets up like it didn’t happen a minute later.

It doesn't matter in the long run.
They're all just keeping that belt warm for the REAL TNT Champion, Negative One.

What happens if Sammy gets injured/covid?
Do we get an interim interim champion?

Yeah, I'm reasonably forgiving of a certain degree of no-selling but that was just... bad. It also took away from what I thought was actually a pretty interesting ending spot where Dustin was just worn down to the point of being too exhausted to kick out anymore (if they'd both been selling being exhausted and beaten, but Sammy grit through due to his youth, the sequence would've worked better).
I don't hate Sammy, he's got charisma and a lot of fire, the crowd loves him and his sign bits are fun and distinct, he's just not a complete package yet. Much like Jungle Boy, he needs work on the parts of his game that are lacking, but also like JB, he's young yet.

The potential is definitely there, it just needs brought together. Experience will help. Some people who get into wrestling don't even have potential to start with.

I didn't see MJF / Sammy but that tombstone sounds infuriating.

I think face Sammy can/will work, he just needs A. to have feuds, and B. to not be stuck in Jericho's orbit.

I want Garcia to take this interm belt off of him. Way more compelling, and IMO, better wrestler.

Yeah, the criticisms that The Bucks unfairly get definitely apply more to Sammy. He's young and definitely has a lot of potential, but someone needs to give him a selling 101 class. I'll give then some slack though as this was clearly thrown together last minute due to the Cody covid situation.
