I'm 78% sure that was the name of a Kinnikuman character. There was Brockenman and Brocken Jr. Brockenman was a Nazi who was defeated and killed by Ramenman, who, in the anime, also ate him, but I forget if he did the manga or not. Brocken Jr. also has Nazi iconography with his costume but becomes a good guy and I guess isn't a Nazi?? Anyway, he tries to get revenge and makes peace with Ramenman turning his father into noodles and devouring him, and sticks around for the whole series as one of the main character's stalwart allies. It's kinda weird. Unrelated, but one of the biggest bad guys in the series is Hulk Hogan, but British. Lord Hulkington of Hogansworth says “Whatever shall you do, good sir, when Hulkingtonmania delivers a proper good thrashing on you?”.

It's pretty easy to not name your guy after a Nazi.
But WWE's never done things the easy way.
It's almost like they enjoy doing the wrong thing.

This 'nazi' shit is weird. It's a generic f***ing German name. The only reason the top result is a U-Boat commander that no one has ever heard of, who doesn't even have a wikipedia page, is because there's not been anyone else 'notable' with that name since then. There are definitely people called Gunther Stark. Almost every other actual German celebrity is guaranteed to share their name with someone who did something in the Second World War

Lesson not learned.

Nazi stuff aside, it’s f***ing awful
Wasn’t Gunther the coffee shop guy on Friends?

Who'd thunk WWE would find a worse name than the Submission Sorority? This was immediately my first thought when I read the title, and I said "they gave one of their stars a gay porn star name, didn't they". Imagine my surprise when I actually came into the thread.

Didn’t Kyle O’Reilly mock him by calling him Gunther?

Isn't the first rule of naming anybody anything that you Google it to see if it's already in use or has any negative connotations? That just seems like common sense to me.
Even if Gunther Starks is an obscure Nazi and there are thousands of Germans with that name, if you're WWE surely you'd decide to err on the side of caution and choose literally any other name instead.
At least he only said Gunther on TV. Hopefully he sticks to the single name and WWE just wasted money on a trademark they'll never use.

Time to change the lastname to "STARKE" "I've got it pal! We'll just add two extra Ks to Stark! Then they'll never figure out that I'm a steroid bloated, hate filled moron!"

Well, according to Wikipedia there were around 22,000 navy officers during the war and then the army tended to have about ten times the personnel of the navy, so that's quite a lot of names.

tbh the funniest thing about this is that WWE managed to give the gimmick the same name as a guy who:
+ Was a U-Boat commander for a grand total of 29 days
+ Failed to kill anyone
+ Was sunk and died immediately.
Which basically sums up how this name change is going to go.

If people believe there is this outstanding number of Germans under Goldberg's age named Gunther, then I believe Gaylord is a common English name for newborn boys. This just reminds me of when Marcel Barthel tweeted "Imperium over everything" nott too long ago ...

Well I’ll be damned. Just looked at my WWE Public Embarrassment Bingo Card. And sure enough, “Almost Rename A Superstar After A Nazi” is on there.
