We're getting to the 30th anniversary of the show, so who did you think was going to walk out with the belt? I was thinking Sid Justice. It sounds weird, but I figured he would use his dominance to win the Rumble and the title, surprised when Flair won.

I also thought it would be Sid Justice.

Ric Flair. It seemed obvious at the time they were setting up Flair/Hogan at WM8.

These early Rumble's had a true feeling of "any man can win it".
When watching it first time round, my picks were Roddy Piper, Undertaker, Sid or Hogan.

Sid. That Flair would come close and ultimately have a hand in Hulks elimination.

10 year old me probably thought Hogan was gonna win it, or Sid.
If current 40 year old me was watching it back then, I would've thought Flair, for sure.

This was the first show I got on PPV but as a kid I liked the lower card guys so I figured a guy like Valentine or Barbarian or Hercules may win. I didn't realize they were just extras who would be let go, or leave, soon. I also thought Brutus Beefcake would taken Marty Jannetty's place and Brutus would win it.
Looking back now, I think Sid was a pretty logical choice but I think Flair was the more reliable of the two. I think a Sid as champ versus Hogan main event on Wrestlemania would have done well but who loses? Hogan won't lose and if Sid's champ and not leaving, he can't lose either.

Yeah pretty much this or Warrior returning or something. No way in hell did I think that grandpa looking dude with the fake belt was winning.

I mean, Vince said on Superstars that it was anyone's guess and that someone like, say, Virgil could be WWF champion

I don't think the event would hold the same if not for Bobby's commentary. You could have Kato as Bobby's protege go an hour with Bobby commentary and it would be memorabile 30 years later. Flair was an amazing athlete for being able to go that long but he was a WWF outsider but I guess Vince wanted him at some point and when he got him pushed him to the top (much like LOD) but didn't know how to use him and the stardom didn't last long. I remember my grandfather who was 14 years older than Ric thinking Ric was super old in the early 90s.

I was only two at the time and while I was a fan even then and had a lot of the Hasbro's I was too young to know what was going on. I do remember that 1992 was the first year I recall really getting into it as far as watching it TV more and getting a lot of the magazines. It was probably the worst year for a child to start watching WWF as 1992 was the year of babyfaces getting violently attacked and doing stretcher jobs. Jannetty getting thrown through the window, Warrior getting the hex put on him, Nailz beating the crap out of Boss Man with his own nightstick. Just so much traumatizing stuff.
Anyways if I was at my current age in 1992 I would've thought either Sid or Flair as they were both new and getting big pushes. You can never count out Hogan cause he's Hogan and he would win everything but if you think about it would've made no sense for him to win in that why would they strip of the belt after he beat Undertaker if he was just going to win it right back anyways? Honestly if I was a little older then I was at the time (say 7 or 8 where I would know what was going on but would still be a child who thought it was real) I would've considered the Berzerker a dark horse just because he won all of his matches by throwing opponents over the top rope. In kayfabe the match was tailor made for him and I thought it was kind of a missed opportunity they didn't do more with him in it. He was in the 92 and 93 Rumbles, eliminating no one in 92 and having one elimination in 93 that was off camera (as the camera is focused everyone trying to get Mr. Perfect out you can just see him in the background big booting Virgil out).

I mean, Vince said on Superstars that it was anyone's guess and that someone like, say, Virgil could be WWF champion That reminded me of a battle royal on Raw sometime in the 00s that was for a shot at the title and Vince came out to change the stipulation because it was possible that Stevie Richards could end up the #1 contender. And then Stevie actually made it pretty far!

Hogan.
Maybe Taker. Once Piper won the IC title, I thought maybe him.
But Hogan was my pick.

I thought Hogan or Sid. When Piper won the IC title, I thought he might get it. I didn't think Flair would get it, and as a 9 year old, I damn sure didn't want him to.

I weirdly have zero memory of having any sort of prediction about this.
Hogan had won the previous two Rumbles, so I probably was not thinking it would be him again. Also, it would have made all the shenanigans at Survivor Series and This Tuesday in Texas meaningless if Hogan or Taker had ended up with the belt again.
I never thought they'd give Piper the IC, much less the world title. Sid seemed too new. Savage seemed too stale. Flair was credible but also not really a battle royal type. It seemed unlikely they'd let him go over the big WWF stars.
I'm just gonna lie and say I thought it would be Skinner.

While being one of the best Rumbles ever, it's by far the most overrated and Heenan is the star of it. It's not great when your heel commentator is the best part of a match and I say that as a guy who loves his commentary, especially in this match.

I was marking hard for DiBiase (and was pissed he was the first one eliminated), but figured it would either be Hogan, Taker or Flair.
