He briefly sorta recaptured something in TNA, but even that was fleeting, and as you say, like 10 years ago. Even there, he couldn't sustain it in that smaller pond than his WWE run. There was the end of the Aces and Eights, and Anderson at that time seemed like he had got his mojo back, but awful feuds with Bully Ray and Sam Shaw put paid to that.
Russo wanted him to be a wild card. Not heel or face but shades of grey. But Russo does not know how to do that. His shades of grey is black one week, white the next, back to black, ad naseum. So all you do is confuse the audience. How can they react when they have no idea what this guys deal is.

He's been scamming people for years.
He wears a shirt that says Wrestling Is Real

I put KenAnderson just above Ahmed Johnson but below Del Rio on the 'wrestling leaderboard of screwing up'.

I legit thought this guy would be the next Stone Cold Yeah when I started watching again in 2007 he briefly became my guy, just watched back his post-MITB promo that year from Raw and can see why, and the heel-pop he gets is huge and from his presence felt like he could go on to be a big deal. Of course that very quickly unravelled.

In the long run, it seems WWE dodged a bullet. I keep saying dude would have pissed off the wrong upper tier WWE person eventually and gotten cut even if Orton didn’t actively go to bat for it.

You mean shoulder. Orton didn't have neck surgery. Right. Forgot which one. Orton only has one neck.

Misteeeer Con-edy (Con-edy!) With a lot of his generation of WWE developmental talent, the company dicked them around in some way so they ever achieved all they should have. Kennedy, well, they put the world at his feet and he killed his own career with the failed drug test after doing a media tour claiming he was clean. He got Bob Holly fired from the WWE and helped remove another pillar of wrestler's court so he'll always have that. Wasn't his school well regarded for a time? Guess the other trainers were responsible for most of that and they all headed to greener pastures. Molly Holly and Daivari were trainers at the school, but are no longer affiliated with The Academy. I think both work for the WWE now as trainers or producers. I think they helped with their reputation. Yeah, them and Arik Cannon were probably the actual reasons the school got a good reputation.

It would be interesting to see what Molly especially would have to say about this. With her actually paying Beth's tuition, I can't see her liking that someone is scamming younger people just trying to get a start.
