WWE star Cesaro has quietly exited WWE after his current contract expired, PWInsider.com has confirmed. He last performed for WWE on 2/11, losing to Happy Corbin on an episode of Friday Night Smackdown.
We are told the two sides had been in negotiations but had not come to terms on a new agreement. This would be a case of his contract expiring, so there would be no 90-day non compete. Cesaro had been slated to be at tomorrow's Smackdown taping in Hershey, PA, but will obviously no longer be there.
Cesaro, 41, had been with WWE since 2011 when he inked a developmental deal with then-WWE developmental territory FCW. Over the course of his run with the company, Cesaro won the first-ever Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 30 and had a run with the WWE United States Championship as well as Raw and Smackdown Title runs with Sheamus, Shinsuke Nakamura and Tyson Kidd.
While had a long run, he was also consistently underutilized during his WWE run. Among fellow talents, he's universally considered one of the best and toughest in-ring performers by any definition of the word in professional wrestling. He can likely punch his own ticket anywhere he chooses to land, whether that be coming to terms with WWE or competing elsewhere.
Prior to his WWE run, the Swiss star, under his real name Claudio Castagnoli, had a tremendous run as one half of the Kings of Wrestling with Chris Hero in Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling NOAH, CZW and CHIKARA.

Wow This is big. Wish him the best with whatever he chooses to do. He was criminally underutilized

2K Sports currently bashing their heads against the screen just now.
Cesaro was criminally underused at various times of his WWE career. I hope he does well wherever he goes.

I honestly thought he would be a lifer so I'm shocked I remember him tweeting "#WWEforLife" or whatever in response to one of Seth's tweets a few years ago, but if he's had a change of heart since then... well, I can't say I blame him. All they've done is pull the rug out from under him even though he's remained consistently over, and that's with him being a very poor promo.

He could literally go anywhere and be an asset.
Not doing ANYTHING of note with him after the Roman feud was ridiculous.

He jad a decent run, but is another person who wasnt used at the level he could have been because of Vince's weird hatred for anyone with a foreign accent.
Good luck to him wherever he goes next.

I honestly thought he would be a lifer so I'm shocked I think after the last year or two, there are very few I'd comfortably call a "lifer" in any company. Wrestling as a whole changes too quickly to expect things to remain static. "Never say never" and all.

Guy had two Wrestlemania moments in an age where people rarely get one. Not a bad innings.

The big question now is - who will Sheamus and Ridge wrestle every week and what other bald friends can Ricochet find?

There is literally no reason why Cesaro shouldn't have been a massive solo star in the WWE.
Literally every time they gave him something to do Solo the crowd were 100% behind him, and literally every time the WWE cut him off at the knees.
Winning the Andre Battle Royale? The next night he turns heel and joins Heyman.
Heyman literally only talks about Brock Lesnar while Cesaro stands there... and the WWE systematically take away literally everything that got Cesaro over... like his massive feats of strength, and the swing (despite changing his music and nickname to references of the Swing.)
Last year vs. Roman Reigns the crowd were super hyped to see Cesaro face off against him... and were absolutely behind him coming off a victory from Seth... and then Roman basically did what Roman does and shruged off everything Cesaro did and beat him soundly...
followed by Roman beating him up after the match... and then Uso beating him up... and then Seth beating him up...
He had a decent run with his tag teams... but dude should have been so much more... and the crowd were basically waiting for a chance to cheer him.
That said... there are other places he can work now and Claudio can walk into just about any of them and still be a star.
