As we all know, WWF/E(and perhaps pro wrestling in general) is very hit-and-miss when it comes to humor. I stand by my word that the best kind of humor is when it's unintentional(not just in wrestling, but in real life as well) because it's all natural. However, there are times when they get humor right and can get a chuckle out of me. What are moments where wrestling did it's just(for you at least).
DX Imitating The Nation - One of the most over acts in the Attitude Era, the rebellious faction caught on with the crowd not just for their anti-authority nature and crotch-chopping, but also for their humor. In July 1998, during their red-hot feud with The Nation of Domination, they got under their skin by mocking them.
Triple H, the leader of the group, was cosplaying as his then-rival The Rock. X-pac dressed up as Mark Henry decked out in Blackface make-up, while Road Dogg was impersonating D'lo Brown by doing his recapping of what his stablemates say as well as head-bobbing, Billy Gunn was being the pimp of the Nation as The Godfather, and honorary member Jason Sensation was playing Owen Hart.
While it served it's purpose in getting a rise out of the crowd, it helped intensify a feud between two Hall of Famers - The Rock and Triple H, culminating in a match at Summerslam in a ladder match for the IC title.
I also enjoyed their parody of The Corporation later that year. My favorite part was when Jason Sensation played Shawn Michaels asking why he never lays down for anybody - because he's always bending over. Given the year earlier when Michaels was doing hand signals performing oral sex, it wouldn't be a stretch to believe Sensation's sentiments.
Kurt Angle and Ric Flair Having a Woo Off: In June 2005, there was the WWE draft. This time, instead of a one night lottery, it was spread out over the month. This happened at the end of a RAW where Smackdown star Kurt Angle was picked to join the red brand. This happened while Triple H and Ric Flair were standing in the ring. To celebrate his drafting, Kurt Angle went "woooo." Not pleased with The Olympic Gold Medalist using his catch phrase, The Nature Boy told him nobody says it but him. The two then got into an argument just by "wooing" and it got so intense Flair was about to take off his suit until Triple H broke it up.
Al Snow Reading Poetry While Steve Blackman Dominated The Hardcore Division: Despite being part of the WWF roster for 3 years at that point, the Lethal Weapon had trouble connecting with fans. They put him in a comedy lower-card tag team with Al Snow that kinda got over, but it didn't necessarily bring out the Silent Assasin's true potential.
That started to change with the break up of Head Cheese in the summer of 2000. Al Snow read a poem about them being a tag team with his back turned as Steve Blackman was defending his Hardcore Championship against those who wanted to take it. Unlike Crash Holly who was the fun Hardcore Champion who ran away from any would-be challengers, Blackman told them to bring it own while using his martial arts repertoire towards his competition.
I liked that because it made him look like a bad-ass while also using humor in the background as a visual gag, which I feel helped him get properly over.
Any you can think of?
