Regal is just captivating on the mic, he can meander and make asides but he's such a masterful storyteller that you're there with him every step of the way. Regal and Wardlow tonight showed why a sterile and scripted atmosphere sucks. If peeps WANT promo help and want help writing their shit, sure, give it to them, but this is why you don't force it on them There are so many veterans who are amazing on the mic in this promotion now, that I really can't wait to see how some of these young guys develop their cadence and personalities along the way.

So was watching the Bryan and Vinny Show and Bryan talked about how when Regal got released many from NXT stated they didn't think he was a big loss because he was super miserable the last several months to the point people rarely talked to him or consulted him at the PC and he was basically just an on screen talent. He brought this up cause people who knew Regal for a long time said since he's been with AEW (short time but still involved with things) they've never seen him so happy even saying he's as happy as a pig in shit.
Bryan seems to think that he hated the direction of NXT

Also the praise at the end for a future Mania Main Eventer was cool.

Bryan seems to think that he hated the direction of NXT He seems to have a pretty well defined code he lives by, for example "I am no longer required at my old job" is the closest to a jab against his old employers he's ever likely to make. I doubt he's happy with the direction of NXT but I think he'd have sucked it up, it's not like he can't help with characterisation, promos, comedy etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't more miserable about half the people he's training being released during a pandemic. I suspect a young guy growing up in 80s England would still have a strong sense of solidarity. But it's all speculation, I suspect he'll be much happier in his new role, he's talented but don't think even he can fake that level of emotion Wednesday.

That segment also involved one of his oldest friends in the business and his finest student, both of which he has been able to reunite with. No doubt he was overcome with emotion, and he had every right to be.

He was at first in the Coach section but later got moved to the Active roster section, I will be shocked if he returns to wrestle considering his health issues.
He could tag in to an already decimated opponent and knucks them

I don't really follow AEW (except just through the forums here), so I ask this question legitimately... could Regal be AEW's answer to Minoru Suzuki? AEW's own 'murder grandpa'?

Minoru Suzuki's already had multiple matches in AEW, lol. One of which is vs Bryan Danielson... and is full and free on Youtube

I don't think he does, just because Suzuki has remained an active in-ring competitor and done a frankly amazing job at both aging gracefully and adapting his ring work, where Regal is very definitely retired and probably better off staying that way. He can have gravity in an on-screen role as a non-competitor who's still dangerous, which is how AEW has handled a fair few of its legends--Jake Roberts staring someone down is still dramatic--but no way he takes on a Suzuki-esque status.

OK, so remember when there was gonna be talk that Regal's health was actually worse in the recent past than he'd let on? This from his interview on Talk Is Jericho... www.fightful.com/wrestling/william-regal-recalls-being-told-he-had-24-hours-live-january-2019To summarise: *He'd had a heart issue (pericarditis) since 1998, but his active wrestling career kept that in check for the most part *By November 2018, due to his retirement, the issue had developed to such a point that he was told at that point that he had only six months to live unless they operated on his heart. At this point, you may remember he was off NXT TV for a long period of time with no explanation, this whole thing is probably why *However, he wasn't recovering at all, remaining in hospital for another month, constantly swollen, in pain, leaking fluids and cramped up *January 2019, they start planning to amputate a leg that had gone septic, otherwise he only had 24 hours to live *By sheer luck, circumstance and a whole lot of injections somehow save his leg, his life and set him on to a full recovery within a few more months

Holy shit that was captivating, the notes don't do it justice, if you're not squeemish I'd encourage anyone to listen to the podcast.
I give WWE a lot of shit for how they treat people but respect to them for what they've done for Regal, he's extremely lucky to be alive and walking, without their money and connections he almost certainly wouldn't be.

How this man is standing is nothing short of a miracle. This is in addition to the fact that years back, he had to literally have his heart stopped in the hopes of getting it working at full capacity.

How the goddamn hell Regal is still alive and walking about is amazing. Legitimately horrifying medical problems that he goes into much detail about.
Like, wait, can the human body even DO that type medical problems.

He was an absolute highlight tonight on commentary, please have him do more of it
Calling Excalibur "Man in the Mask" killed me, the way he described moves so emphatically and how they hurt a person more was absolutely wonderful, as was the exchange of:
JR- Can you control these two at all??
Regal- *Chuckles* Absolutely not!
