Capcom never seemed to learn from any of its blunders and just kept putting out Megaman Collections I mean they've had a string of massive hits, Resident Evil 8, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry 5... Yeah, they’ve pretty much been in a new renaissance since RE7.

and as stated they did take a big risk completely destroying Warhammer Fantasy for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. I'm still rather confused why they did that when Total Warhammer was on the horizon. I would have thought they'd have kept at least a semblance of the game going until they saw how the PC version did before scrapping it. Technically all the old lore is still active in the same way the Horus Heresy is active in 40k. It's a nice historical part to use/look back on for them, whilst also not being confined by the nature that setting had (also copyrights can be made for things like Orrucs, instead of orcs ). Plus characters like Nagash and Gotrek are still about.

Can we also mention Monopoly, I mean how many versions of that game do we honestly need Hasbro??

Irrespective of the incredibly shitty stuff in the background I'd say Blizzard and World of Warcraft. The Microsoft takeover cannot come soon enough. And while we are at it let's add Overwatch as well. Overwatch 2 is just an update to a live service game.

Can we also mention Monopoly, I mean how many versions of that game do we honestly need Hasbro?? Are board games dying? And Monopoly is THE board game for casuals. Plus I dont think Hasbro intends for their fans to buy every variation. They just like to have a novelty version for whatever someone may like. To compare it to my original post. Palladium Books been slowly dying while the RPG industry is mostly doing fine. Not what it was but still healthy. But Palladium has refused to update its rules and business practices so it relies on a shrinking diehard fanbase to buy everything it puts out. Same with Marvel and DC. They made it difficult to gain new readers by abandoning the newsstands. Once you had to go to a special store to buy their comics you lost the kids and casuals. Now when their characters are the biggest thing in entertainment you are lucky to sell a hundred thousand copies.

And casuals may only have or play a few but it seems every household has at least one. So not really a dying fanbase.

The print press on general? Their elderly readership are literally dying, and with them go their income. Most of the big players worldwide fought the internet and shoved their content behind paywalls, and given how that hasn't worked, the former Newscorp and others are lobbying to free money from actual profitable businesses in the form of link taxes and Australia's Rupert Murdoch protection act. Once reputable outlets will run press releases as articles like they're real news, eroding their credibility in the process.

Just ask the Rams, the NFL, and Indianapolis if board games are dying. There was the story that the Rams couldn't get their usual hotel in Indy, or a lot of other hotels, because they were sold out due to Gen Con.

Good one. Which is the major problem with todays capitalism. Netflix has the biggest market share of any streaming platform. So they have little room to grow. They could literally sign up everyone on Earth but that wouldnt be good enough. They would still have to keep growing. Which would mean raising prices to satisfy Wall Streets never stop growing BS.

Oh if only, they're the Robotech people who've spent the past 40 years as a lawsuit mill and blocking all attempts at western releases of Macross.

They tie in to some of Palladiums troubles. Since the 80s Palladium had the license for Robotech. A few years back they designed a miniature game called Robotech Tactics. They ran a Kickstarter with several reward tiers and got good funding from it. The basic game went out to the backers who had many complaints about the quality. Then when it came time for their other tier rewards Palladium was unable to deliver. They had spent money for extra product they hoped to sell. When that did not become a success they no longer had the money to get the promised rewards made. Then Harmony Gold pulled the license.

True, it's still there as such, I just thought that they'd see how Total Warhammer did before scrapping everything and moving onto something else. At least preserving some of it to make even more money.

You think Marvel and DC are milking dying fanbases? Maybe the actual comics themselves, but their characters have never seemed more popular. Yes the comics. No matter how popular the movies and media are they are unable to translate that to any significant new comics readers. So they subsist on an aging and dwindling fan base. It's hard to get invested when they keep starting and stopping series. It's been years since I've followed anything from either company, because it was so frustrating to follow a series for 10-12 issues only for it end.

I heard good things about some of the new Daredevil stuff so I thought I might get a trade or two. But since they restart the series so much who knows which #1 to start with. I should not have to do research to find out which trade to start with.

Appears the only comic to get a sales boost from a tv show/movie is Walking Dead
