Honestly, Shane McMahon vs. Austin Theory made so much more sense, but with McMahon’s dismissal back in January, it feels like they pivoted to what “they” considered the next best thing.
However, despite Mcafee having name value outside the WWE, I just can’t imagine anyone bought a ticket to the show based on the addition of Theory vs. Mcafee, and it may get some puplicity the company otherwise wouldn’t have received.
If it doesn’t translate into additional ticket sales, what does it actually amount to?

It's the same problem I've had with McAfee since he started getting in the ring. He shouldn't be booked as a physical equal to the wrestlers. Ehhhhhhhhh, physically speaking, McAfee is a special case. He's not exactly Michael Cole, he's a former NFL player (yes, a punter, but kickers are much more physically comparable to wrestlers now than they were in the past) and still pretty close to his playing days. They haven't bothered trying to establish he's trained and wrestled in NXT, though, correct? Because that would kinda help. If he's a heel, have him be delusional and cheat to get ahead, as a face book him as an underdog with an athletic background, but still way behind the wrestler in ring. Couple the latter with Theory beating him down and disrespecting him. It gets heat on Theory who desperately needs it and makes Mcafee that much more sympathetic. The only time they've engaged physically, Mcafee basically kicked Theory's ass. Doesn't help Theory get over much IMO. McAfee selling a beatdown and talking about how much he loves wrestling and taking the I'm going to get beat up, but I'm still doing this will elevate both guys.

Pat McAfee is a really good commentator, and he had a surprisingly entertaining match against Adam Cole at NXT Takeover... but that was Adam Cole. This is Austin Theory.
I'm not sure how good this match will be, but it's what you have to resort to when you can't build the rest of your roster.

I didn't think I'd ever be caring about Austin Theory vs. Finn Balor for like the 10th time but Pat being a damn disruptive octopus did it.
