For the kind of show WWE is, I think the intention for a show like Wrestlemania should be variety. Put on some gimmick matches, do some weird stuff, and that extends to, yeah, sure, a battle royal to get tons of people there at least doing something. A well paced battle royal is fine viewing. It's fun, it's different from the rest of the show, you can put in fun character moments and bits, and maybe crown a scrappy fan favorite the winner to start the show off on the right foot. WWE has totally lost the plot on that, and the fact they put it onto Smackdown where it means nothing and is just A Thing On Smackdown becomes a good hint of how WWE doesn't even really understand why they put things on they just have to keep putting things on. The shocking thing about modern Wrestlemania is that the guy who put together all those old Wrestlemanias is responsible for these, too. You wouldn't be able to tell, if you were to just look at it from the outside. And they can't find a place for either mid card belt... despite them being on Finn Balor and Ricochet... two people that are pretty much perfect for the mutltiman ladder car crash they usually put on. Instead one's in the Smackdown only battle royale for... reasons... and the other... I don't think is even on the "show" in that capacity?

I think it’s just been done more due to the Fox Smackdown deal and having something semi-important for that go-home Smackdown. Prior to the Fox deal, the Smackdown before would typically be a couple of pre-taped matches and a bunch of video packages previewing the show.

I think the moment Mojo Rawley showed it to some kids backstage in a RAW segment and they essentially laughed at him, should have been the moment this was quietly retired and never mentioned again...

The best way to memorialize Andre would probably be through an all night bender.

Ricochet's defending the IC belt tonight against Angel Garza, which is a prime case of a belt and 2 wrestlers who are all undervalued by WWE in 2022. I dislike the Battle Royal being on the Smackdown. Smackdown is not WrestleMania. They didn't have pre-show matches last year, it was just 2 hours of talking on Night 2, and 3 1/2 hours of talking on Night 1 due to the storm. Just recall how much they fit into about 3 hours and 50 minutes of WrestleMania 17 by comparison...

If it's not going to be on Mania and they're not going to push the winner I see zero reason for it to even exist.

On the bright side, we get to see MACE again.

I think part of it, is with Smackdown being on Friday Nights now, they need a big match to headline the show because most people won't be working the show, less they get injured days before Mania.
That's why this and the Triple Threat IC match are the big things advertised for the show. You'll probably only have like 30 mins of actual wrestling Friday night because you don't want anybody else working.

The Fox deal changed the equation.

I do want them to have Finn and Priest have a story in the match that leads to them getting on the card at least for a damn preshow match since they spent weeks building to the damn match at Mania.
That would at least give it some purpose.

That would at least give it some purpose. Correction: they spent maybe a couple weeks on a build, then pulled Priest off TV, put Finn against Austin Theory _again_ and dropped all mention of a match between Balor and Priest for Wrestlemania, even on the Raw go-home. It's possible that they're putting it back on the card, but the uncertainty has likely hurt subs and sales for the big event.

There's only seven matches for each night. It should be easy to add a battle royal each day, and I-C/US title matches, and still not go over four hours.
Have the women's tag titles be Zelina & Carmella v Sasha & Naomi. Take the New Day/Sheamus & Ridge Holland match off the Saturday. and Omos/Lashley off the Sunday. Have a stipulation where the winner gets a title shot for Backlash. Lashley wins the men's, Ripley wins the women's. The Battle Royals get bigger prestige, and you get a fresh double main event for Backlash. Easy.

I imagine any subs and sales based solely on the Priest-Balor match of all things would be in the double digits (as in between 10 and 99 people).

Priest is ice-cold and both looked like jobbers by the end of that.

Don’t have to pay all those guys Mania paydays if they’re on Smackdown instead. Well played Vince.

At least you can have a storyline out of this, set up Moss as Balor’s next challenger.

I somehow think Finn winning it would have been worse.
