Been listening to an audiobook about Heartbreak called Heartbreak: A Personal and Scientific Journey. And they were talking about the feeling of awe be it natural or otherwise and the mental and physical feeling during it and made me think.... What was the last time I felt "awe". Still thinking but I figure I would ask here

All politics aside, a COVID vaccine being developed in 18 months or so is one of the most staggering achievements in human history.
It's on par with the moon landing, and that it's not recognized as such is kind of amazing.

Ok more in the moment in viewing awe not land on the moon 40 years after the fact cause it's still amazing that happened awe. Also they mentioned negative awe of a global pandemic about how that either strives you for more social justice or makes you more standoffish

I have met several wrestlers (Triple H, Sgt Slaughter, Tony Garea, Paul Orndorff, Tito Santana) and every time I managed to hold a normal conversation with them.
On the other hand, about a dozen years ago I went to the L.A. Comic-Con with my family. At one point I turned around and saw Ernest Borgnine standing right behind me. I opened my mouth to say something but my brain locked up and I couldn’t make a sound because it was ERNEST FREAKING BORGNINE!!!

A coworker has a "Make a Wish" kid with terminal condition where living past puberty isn't a possibility. He's currently 14, not healthy but still mentally functional. He's the most positive person I know and has really helped me understand what's truly important in life.
I'm in awe of his composure in the face of certain death. His defiance of life helped me with my own cancer battle a couple years back. I owe the kid a lot.

The time a moose wandered past me in the wilderness. Could not imagine how big they actually are.

Couple of days ago, went into a Lego store for the first time and saw sets for The Ecto 1 and the house from Home Alone.

In 2014, I was having a very rushed day and last minute had to get a haircut but my two normal places were booked so I tried a new one on the upper east side. Halfway through my cut, I found out by overhearing that the elderly woman getting her haircut next to me was a holocaust survivor. Cheerful, pleasant, and I'm still stunned. A direct in-person connection to someone who was in the camps of the greatest atrocity of the 20th century put so, so much in perspective for me.
This may not be the last time I was "in awe" of something, but it's one of those powerful moments I think of first.

Going to my first ever Raw taping in 2015 for my birthday. Entering the arena bowl and seeing the Raw set in all its glory in person was a hell of a sight to take in.

My mother's brain surgery last year. She went from being essentially a bowl of jello to a relatively normal person in the space of a few hours. I had made peace with the fact that Mom was about to cash in her chips to having a conversation with her about 12 or 18 hours later. Keeping in mind, I about lost my shit when the surgeon walked in and he looked like Doogie Howser. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover, folks.

When I saw the 1:1 Unicorn Gundam Statue in Odaiba back in 2018.
For a little while I became a little kid and it was only then that it dawned on me that yes, I have fulfilled my dream of coming to Japan!

This may not be the last time I was "in awe" of something, but it's one of those powerful moments I think of first. Sometimes you come across people who remind you of how recently some of this horrible shit took place. When I was a kid my family knew a guy who had been a journalist in South Africa during apartheid, which was a pretty dodgy job to have back then. He had written a few articles critical of the government that had pissed someone off enough that he'd received a sudden call-up to the SADF, and had come to England rather than be sent to the border to fight to preserve apartheid, or to prison for refusing to go.
Sort of makes you realise how close it all was, and that there are still quite a lot of people who lived through these things.

Years ago when I was living in Japan, I realized I had to take the opportunity to hike up Mt Fuji. But on top of that, I splurged a bit so I could stay at a lodge for the evening a far way up, and then be woken up to hike the rest of the way up to make in time for dawn.
I’ll tell you: watching a sunrise, rays of sun piercing the clouds like something from a painting of a mythological scene, from the summit of a world-famous sacred mountain is breathtaking. They ain’t kidding when they say nature is grand.

South Africa in 2012 when I was in Kruger national park. we had seen some animals in the first three days or so, not many. Then the third day we saw a herd of elephants making their way through the high grass next to the river which was downhill from our camp. They spent about two hours silently grazing while all of us just watched in awe. It was amazing.

When my wife gave birth to our son, 9lbs 12 ounces (big ol' boy), they ended up having to do a c-section and I was in the room for the entire process...They even took pictures...It was the most surreal 5 minutes (if that? Felt like an eternity) of my life but something I will never forget both good and bad haha...As soon as they cut the cord and handed me my boy he peed all over me. Fitting

The amount of weed I smoked this weekend watching wrestling 24/7 was pretty damn awe inspiring.

Might sound corny.... but going to the Michigan/Ohio St. game in November. Not only was it the first UM/OSU game i've seen live in person, but Michigan actually f'ing won (with relative ease, in hindsight).

I'm a huge Elvis Presley fan, so I was in awe walking through the doors of Graceland and touring the mansion. It was a great experience- highly recommended if you're even a casual Elvis fan.
