So let's talk about this song....... For some reason I never gave a thought to what it's about.....I heard it the other day on the radio waiting for the good 'ol Wayne's World turnaround and damn if I didn't finally understand the lyrical content of the song.......... So this guy is either commiting suicide or will be put to death for killing a man ..........Damn I guess I just never thought much of it and I never owned up to being a fan of Queen but damn this song rules now........ It's actually inspired by Albert Camus' legendary novel "The Stranger." I read it my first year of college and it never occured to me that the two were related until I looked up info on the novel for my term paper. For those who haven't read it, it's about a man whose mother passes away at the beginning of the novel. Over the course of the chapters, he meets a man who becomes sort of a bother, but he still considers the man a friend. Later on, the friend is assaulted by an Arab and his friends (I think - I haven't read the novel in two years). Later on, the protagonist goes for a walk to clear his head, and he just happens to have the gun that his friend asked him to hold onto in his pocket. And by pure happenstance, he comes by the Arab. It's almost kind of robotic how he kills him, just shooting him for reasons he can't explain. It's not like he was so close to his friend that he felt the need to avenge his beating. And it's not like he even had a problem with the Arab. In his mind, he kind of reflects on his mother and how his life (which was just starting to look up from it's regular monotony now that he has a beautiful lover) will change. ("Mama, just killed a man/put a gun against his head/pulled my trigger now he's dead/Mama, life had just begun/And now I've gone and thrown it all away") Anyway, the protagonist, who should have gotten a harsh but non-life sentence, ends up being sentenced to death when the prosecutor, when thinking up a motive, brings up witnesses who tesitfy that the protagonist didn't mourn enough for his mother. So basically, he was convicted and sentenced to die because he wasn't devastated that his mother (a very old woman at the time) passed away. Either way, he's kind of apathetic to his situation and the outcome of the trial ("anyway the wind blows, nothing really matters to me") That's the novel as best as I can remember it. I'm sure you could wikipedia it for something more accurate and detailed. It's a wonderful novel and regarded as a masterpiece of literature (and I can vouch for that).

I'll say what I always say when this song is brought up.
I am required BY LAW to punch anyone in the face who decides to headbang at any point during this song.

As a side note, anyone here ever see the video that Pink, Beyonce and Britney Spears did for WE WILL ROCK YOU? I saw a clip of it on some station this past weekend. Christ was that bad. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkELRp4wKPsSee above..... During that i wanted Freddie to appear (Goku style) and Pimp slap the lot of em then yells. "Nobody ruins my F***ing classics" Then he beats the crap out of Justin Hawkings fro being a crap Freddie wannabe *on topic* I always thought "Innuendo" was one of Queens most underrated songs

Bohemian Rhapsody is simply one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Music just isn't made like that anymore, and it's saddening.

BR is a song that demands silence, so everyone can listen to it.

Hate it. Like another "classic" Stairway To Heaven it bores me to tears. I turn over the radio when either of them come on. Hammer To Fall's gotta be their best one.

I do, in fact I never liked the song except for the headbanging part.
Thanks for sharing The Stranger.
Some real lyrical beauty in that....
And for the record Fat Bottom Girls is my favorite Queen song.

I love this song, it's one of my favorite songs ever. If I listen to it once, it's stuck in my head all day, and I don't mind that.

Freddie Mercury is a one in a million talent. There will never be another like him. And for the record..I too think Fat Bottom Girls is the best Queen song.
