This is way more gross to me than a thousand dick flips, bra and panty mud matches, blow-up dolls, and nine-year old girls.
We should be protecting our wrestling veterans, not exploiting them for profit.

I heard that this match was a train-wreck. I didn't see it. I also heard it was on PPV. I feel for the people who paid to watch it. Were there any other matches on the card shown, at least? Yeah the card itself was actually really good. Got the Motor City Machine Guns vs The Wolves, two fatal four ways representing Progress and AAA, an Impact World title match and a couple of other decent tag matches. The undercard was a solid, enjoyable show.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to do a "retirement tour" and go back to the well a few more times to squeeze out another payday.

The fact that the announcers treated a vertical suplex as a death move, and that it believably could have been, tells you all you need to know. Seriously, it’s scary to think how rough Flair is. He took one bump and it took him out of the whole match. It’s not like he did a lot and got worn out. One move and he couldn’t get up for the rest of the match.

Can't help but think Taker and DDP have heat from this clip. Didn't even acknowledge Dallas youtu.be/YB1sSsBkQ9sWhile I doubt they are best buds, it looked like Taker said something to DDP while he was looking down and DDP laughed. They may be just on "How are you" terms. Yeah it's hard to tell. Something just seems off.

I mean, isn't that his father in law? You'd think he wouldn't want to endanger his family like that with this match. Then again, it may have been a thing where Flair wanted one more match and would go about getting it however he could. So maybe Conrad thought "Well, look, if I set this up, I can at least keep him from going to some scummy independent douche who doesn't care about him, and I can get the guys that can keep him safe."

Yeah, been wondering about that myself tbh.guy didn’t seemed phased but man I kept thinking he had to have balls of steel while Flair was basically out during the match. I heard him chastise Prichard on the Scott Hall/drinking thing a while ago and I’m thinking to myself..boy, this ain’t that far removed from that kind of exploitation.

Thing is, I wouldn’t even refer to this as exploitation. If you watch the training videos, Flair legit looked like he’d be able to go in a well protected match. If Flair had looked like he did in the match when he was training, I don’t think Conrad would’ve done the show. Conrad’s a carny, that’s clear, but I don’t think he would’ve risked his father in laws life nor do I think Meagan would’ve allowed Conrad to run the show.

They might have/should have told Ric to take it easy on the drinking in the week leading to the match but..god save anyone who might try to tell that to an old Ric flair.

This was a slightly less depressing pro wrestling equivalent of Muhammad Ali Vs. Larry Holmes.
This was one of the best professional wrestlers to ever live showing just how far gone he was and nearly dying in the ring in a match that should never have happened.
Everybody who made this match happen ought to be ashamed of themselves, and they're lucky this didn't end tragically.

Something just seems off. I was waiting to see if someone would mention this. Seems that between DDP and Sting, Undertaker just doesn't like them both and refused to really do business with either of them. Maybe they rubbed him the wrong way in WCW and he never forgot it?

The fact that the announcers treated a vertical suplex as a death move, and that it believably could have been, tells you all you need to know. It was going to be a superplex but Flair couldn’t stay up there and Jay Lethal got him down before doing it so he didn’t actually die.

I feel relieved when I come here and see how many of us agree that this was a bad idea. Wrestling fans may fall out over WWE vs. AEW and other stuff, but I think most of us can concur about NOT wanting to see an unwell 70+ year old man wrestling.
(There's also agreeing that CYN is a joke, but another story for another day)
However there are people out there who LIKED this and told Conrad so. That concerns me.

It was simple. The Flair and Andrade should have rushed the ring with a house of fire, and then cleared the heels from the ring. Then, Flair could have done some showboating to pop the crowd. Flair stars the match with some typical house show-style match stalling. Flair gets a few shots on the heels for an initial babyface shine before the heels quickly cut him off. Flair tags out early and Andrade works the majority of the match. The heels cut off the ring until Flair finally gets the hot tag. Flair does some chops and a few other signature moves before slapping on the figure four and it's done.
I don't think anybody watching at home or ordering the ppv would have expected more. The people didn't come to see a 80s broadway from Flair the likes of Funk, Steamboat or Sting. Just a few of his greatest hits on a heels would have send the fans home just as satisfied.
